Stuffed onion is one of the traditional dishes of Greek
To make this delicious dish, you need the ingredients I write below.
📝stuffed onion ( for 6 people )
Prepare and Cooking time is about 70 minutes
Ingredients :
4 large onions
300 grams of minced meat
6 tablespoons of rice
5 tablespoons of parsley
1 tablespoon of tomato paste
1 tablespoon of pepper paste
5 tablespoons of pomegranate paste
1/3 cup of olive oil
A chopped onion
Spices:
1/2 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp of garlic powder
1/2 tsp of black pepper
1/2 tsp of paprika
1 tsp of sumac
1/2 tsp of turmeric
1/4 tsp of red pepper
For the sauce:
1 tablespoon of tomato paste
2 cloves of garlic
1 teaspoon of salt
1 pinch of ground red pepper
1 pinch sumac
1 pomegranate paste
1/3 tea glass of olive oil
1.5 glasses of hot water
1. First, peel the onions, cut them from the top and bottom, and flatten them. Make a vertical cut before going through the middle of the onions and boil them in boiling salted water for 10 minutes. Remove the steamed onions from the water, drain, and let them sit for 10 minutes.
2. Separate the onions leaf by leaf and remove the membranes inside them.
3. Wash and drain the rice, separate only the parsley leaves, and chop them until they become powder.
4. In a large bowl, knead and mix the ground meat, rice, parsley, chopped onions, salt, spices, tomato paste, pomegranate paste and olive oil.
5. Put about a tablespoon of filling into each boiled onion and wrap it in a ball. Excess of the mixture will come out, tear it off.
6. Arrange the stuffed vegetables on the tray so that there is not much space between them and the seams are at the bottom.
7. Mix the sauce ingredients in a bowl. Carefully pour the sauce over all the onions and touch them on the tray.
8. Cover the stuffed onion with soaked greaseproof paper. Let it cook in a hot oven at 200 degrees. Check the onions after the first 30 minutes and remove the paper if they become soft. Then cook for another 10- 15 minutes until the onions gain color.
9. Take the stuffed onion out of the oven and let it rest at room temperature for 10 minutes and place it on a serving plate. You can pour the remaining sauce on the tray over the stuffed onions, and serve by adding chopped parsley and Greek yogurt if you wish.
