Scam Bites: I Am Your Biggest Fan! (Scambaiting)

Scambaiting time again! This time, a scammer who is impersonating one of my favourite YouTubers!

THIS WAS NOT ADAM RAGUSEA, it was a scammer impersonating him. I can't tell if some of the comments about that are serious or joking.

When you said "That sounds a bit childish really" I immediately knew where that was going

This quickly escalated for the scammer from " Ha ha im gonna get all your money" to "Oh no is the Adoring fan from Oblivion"

I get such a dumb grin on my face whenever Big Bossman Atomic Shrimp plays the "Are you a small boy?" card.

“I don’t know but it seems you’ve been disturbing me for a little while too much now and I don’t really seem to like it” I think that’s the sentiment of every scammer who tries to scam Atomic Shrimp after a while.

imagining adam ragusea in a Memento situation, opening his phone with no recollection of what's happening and seeing weird messages from a stranger, skimming the history and concluding "it seems you've been disturbing me and i don't seem to like it?"

I liked the 'I expect Youtubers to be perfect in both behaviour and motive. It's not unreasonable.". Some viewers and 'fans' really do hold Youtubers up to impeccably high standards. I do think it's something you get from a lot of jobs where you interact with the public. I work in a call centre and I can be shouted and screamed at for 30 minutes straight and I have to be respectful and apologetic the whole time. If I slip up and ask the customer to refrain from shouting as my ears hurt, or that it hurts my feelings when they call me certain names, then they will act as if I am the one who has been screaming at them for 30 minutes and demand to speak to a manager to report my disgusting behaviour.

These types of people are the minority in the general public, but you will have to deal with them from time to time.

See this just kind of demonstrates why I was so confused about these kinds of scams: they are never able to compellingly pull off the personality, and people whom have a parasocial enough relationship with the youtuber to be taken in by this scam would be put off fairly quickly by the differences. No doubt this is why scammers are always so aggressive and pushy about wanting things done quickly, but I can't imagine this one is terribly successful. On the other hand, I guess you only need to take one or two people for a very expensive misfortune for it to be "worth it"

Thanks for doing these and sharing them, so I don't have to. Because I am curious how conversations with these people would go but know decidly too little about tech to do it myself safely.

I've clicked the "report" button for literally thousands of these comments and at this point, I almost think the report button is just a placebo to make you feel better.
