Should Christians Repent When They Sin? — Ted Shuttlesworth Jr. // Truth For Life #39

If God's grace was so powerful that it forgave our past, present and future sins is it necessary for us to repent?

1. 1 John 1-9 tells us that if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us. Although some people do not believe this was written to believers because they were not specifically addressed we need to remember this was a letter written by John with no chapters and verses to one body of people of believers. He was telling us that if we commit a sin we need to repent.

2. In Acts 8:18-23 Peter rebuked Simon and told him that he had evil in his heart and he needed to repent and hope that the judgement of God did not come upon his life.

3. In Revelation 2 & 3 we see Jesus speaking to his church's and tells them they need to repent and if they don't then he would remove their candlestick from it's place among the church's. All they need to do is repent and he would forgive them and set them back to where they needed to be.

God's grace and mercy are not a license to live disobedient to the commands of his word. His grace and his mercy should push us to live according to our covenant with God.

I’d love to hear more in depth on this, or maybe more specifically on certain parts of this. I absolutely know we need to repent. However, lately I’ve felt like no amount of repentance will be enough, or like because I’ve sinned as a Christian I’ve “gone to far” or “lost it”...

I enjoyed your video very much. It's just that I am a Christian and I do love God. However, I keep falling into sin and it's so hard to resist at this teenage age. I want to live for God the right way, but I get so easily distracted. People tell me not to be so serious all the time and enjoy my life. I try to, but I do not want to drift away too far from God.
