It was just about closing time. Lua's waning face hung low in the sky, the glow seeking out every nook of my office it could find, like a quiet river over stone. I looked out the window, watching the lights of the small Ostron city snuff out one by one, an almost empty cup of bad liquor in one hand and a cracked mask in my likeness given to me by a client in the other. Kid had no money, he says, but it never was about the money. There'll be another incident, another mystery calling my name to solve. It never ends in this cursed world.
A knock at the door brought my thoughts back down from the void. I wasn't expecting any visitors, see, especially this time of night. Placing the mask down, I slide my old Lex from it's home in its desk drawer and approach the door. I ain't no fool, there are many who'd have my head if givin an inch of my neck, but curiosity got the best of me.
"We're closed." I called out through the almost dark, my voice almost blasphemy at this hour, my shadow stretching across the room, as if to greet our visitor. A light, no, a flame appeared behind the frosted glass, only to be extinguished in a heartbeat, followed by the sound of a long drag from a cigarette.
"I've got a job." she called back. "It's urgent, and every other PI is too chicken to take it." Conscious of my caution, i could see her silhouette raise her hands, the moonlight having betrayed me and showing her my actions as well.
"I'm not here to knock you off." She continued. "Trust me, if I wanted you hurt, I would've already done you in, sugar." A smirk pulled at my cheek. The dame sounded a bit cocky, but she had a point. This joint aint a fortress, any hatchetman with an itchy trigger finger could come in here and give me lead poisoning without kindly knocking. Setting my six shooter back down, I went up and unlocked my office door.
She was like a wolf in sheep's clothing, a wildfire pretending to be a candle. I could tell at an instant just by looking at her. Lua's light didn't do her justice, as I knew immediately looking at the swirling patterns on her dress and the fire in her eyes exactly who she was, and why no other sleuth would hear her out.
"Now, what brings a canary like you all the way to this hole in the wall, Miss Ember?" A soft breath of smoke came from her lips like it was only natural for it to. Not responding to my question at first, she confidently strode in, placing her overcoat on the entryway hanger. She had a voice like a dove, a voice that'd draw crowds from all over the system, but that also attracted a lot of attention from the wrong side of the system. I leaned against the wall, watching her move to a lounge chair. She eyed me back for a moment, taking another drag before parting her lips to speak.
"I believe it's customary to offer your guest a drink before talking business." I let out a small chuckle, nodding at her words.
"Just emptied my last bottle, I'm afraid. Wasn't thinking I'd have to share." I walked over and sat across from her. She let her eyes wander around the room, and I could've sworn there was a spark behind them.
"Shame, after we're done here, you might need another, Mr. Limbo." Her gaze was now locked onto mine, crossing one leg over the other.
"And why would that be?" I asked. I could hear it, the call of mystery whispering my name behind her next words. The search was about to begin again.
"Someone has made it clear they want me dead, and they've may have already succeeded in taking the life of another." Taking off my hat, I leaned forward, not looking away. I knew it was going to be a long night when I poured out that last glass, and now I definitely wish I had some more.

It's a cold rainy night, I just powered down my limbo, it's been a long day, too many grineer ambushed in fact. Got scars left and right. I'll sit down and watch this dark sky and reminisce on simpler times .

This just makes me picture the Orokin having a fancy party and the Warframes/operators having to wear futuristic tuxedo's and dresses.
