If you believe "do you want to be cursed by God?" Is a legitimate question to ask someone in a senate hearing, you don't deserve to hold public office.

The separation of church and state is just a joke at this point.

One crazy thing about the banning of tourists from the geisha district is that people were physically harassing geishas (pulling their kimonos, following them around while taking pictures, touching their extremely expensive hair, getting in their way while the geishas were just trying to go to their destination/literal job). Tourists were treating these women as dolls that they were entitled to touch. Even crazier is that maikos (geishas in training) usually start pretty young (12 - 14 years old), so these tourists are harassing literal children. I feel so bad about how terrified some maikos might be about grown ass people chasing after them in the streets, yelling at them for a picture, or physically assaulting them to feel their kimono/hair.

Also, people are legit just destroying environments that everyone has a right to enjoy. There are so many people shaking sakura trees for the gram or just breaking off branches to take. I feel so disgusted by people who think they are so entitled to nature like that. They should just stay put and leave the general population alone.

I like that in this channel we don't need to put it at 1.5x speed, DeFranco talks in 1.5x already

The story about the lost little girl going up to Mariska (thinking she was a real cop), was adorable and is the kind of story we need more of in the news.

"Do you want Columbia to be cursed by God?" is that a real thing that is said in congress?? I feel like I'm seeing a scene in a dystopia film @.@

Nobody is trying to fix the root problems we have in this country. Everyone is stuck focusing on making enough money so that the problems don't apply to them anymore.

Been here in Japan since right before Covid and there was a lot of talk by local Japanese about how much quieter and nicer the tourist hubs have been since tourism halted. This was despite the fact that cities absolutely dependent on tourism, like Kyoto where that geisha district is, was under threat of going bankrupt. The government wanted tourism back - the locals didn't. The geisha district being closed to tourists isn't shocking when you find out that people are just walking into homes along the street, and taking pictures of geishas in a country where privacy laws extend protections to people minding their own business on the streets -- among a slew of other issues

That House Hearing was really uncomfortable and troubling; it was like modern-day McCarthyism. Also, who let that one congressman inject rhetoric from the Bible???

The reporter saying, "I'm devastated to realize I'm part of the problem, " and going on to say there is a distinction between that type of interaction with men versus women I think proved he got the point. That apology seemed pretty good to me. There will never be 100% perfect apologies, but if the person realizes the issue, admits the problem, and vows to do better, I don't know what else you can ask for. We can't keep bashing every person's apology without giving them the opportunity to grow from that moment. I hope that reporter doesn't take the further bashing to heart and just tries to focus on the productive side of the convo and do better work when it comes to female athletes.

Tourism is a double edged sword. I live in a small Appalachian town that used to have a lot of tourism about 30 years ago, now those tourists are retiring here and this town wasn’t prepared for such a large increase in the elderly and aging population. The hospital and retirement homes are overflowing while multimillion dollar cabins sit empty because no local could afford it.

My dad is a forester. He has said YEARS before many of the big fires the last 5 years. That much of the government have halted common sense forest management like, controlled burns, taking out dead trees and even cleaning some tress out that are alive but are at risk of starting fires.

For the Gregg Doyel story, let's not forget the Hanlon's razor adage: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

"Do you want Columbia University to be cursed by god?"
The fuck? How can you possibly take anything out of his mouth seriously after that?

17:23 I’m a New Orleans native, born and raised. And having tourist come through and act like there are no laws on is maddening. More times than not, our crime rates skyrocket during tourist season and the bad actors just get to go home with a crazy story while our city gets the bad reputation.

“Do you want Columbia University to be cursed by God?” That was a real question.

For context I have autism, and I can totally see how someone can make the "mistake" that the reporter made. Not saying he is autistic or anything, just saying that I've seen accidental awkward phrasing which is much worse from myself and others. And those were definitely accidental. As this is his job I expect him to learn, but I have no reason to doubt his reasoning. Being villanized for being awkward, something you cannot always control, shouldn't be considered. It has been brought up, he acknowledges his mistake, as far as I'm concerned this is complete and done. I don't see why this conversation is still going on.

One more thing about the Georgian foreign agent law is that since they revoked it last year under the pressure of protests and western partners they have stated on MULTIPLE occasion, in fact the very lawmaker that got punched now for bringing it back has said this multiple times, that they were revoking it unconditionally and would not bring it forward again. Fast forward one year and they have done the exact opposite.
Also the opposition politician that did the punching at 18:05 faced retaliation from police on Wednesday's protest. And by retaliation I mean exactly that, the police swarmed him, a member of parliament, threw him to the ground and kicked him with their feet (he's got a broken rib + other injuries) IN FRONT of cameras. That goes to show how careful the police will be with 'normal' protesters.
