I'm a 600 guy also. Best one in the lineup. I have a kitchen sink model and I agree that the vocals are just spot on. Amazing and sound so natural. It can really play any music well which I think is one misconception. It does have enough bass punch and overall is very balanced with a bit of warmth. Not overly warm like 6xx. Highly recommend it above any of the others and can be a benchmark standard in any collection.

I got the HD600 in January 2011 and then in September 2013 I got the HD650. I preferred the 650s warmer sound and like you said - it’s sort of just more enjoyable. Good enough reason for me.

Sold the 600 to a happy buyer and have been using the HD650s as my daily drivers ever since! Going on 10 years now. Love them.

I have heard more reviewers and testers say that the 6XX is identical to the 650. I have had a chance to try them side-by-side, and of course YMMV but I did not notice a significant difference. It also doesn't strike me as extremely veiled, another frequent concern about Senns in general and the 650 in particular. It has respectable clarity across the spectrum, despite the midrange emphasis. You're not losing out having a 6XX. Haven't tried the 58X but I'd like to.

At least in my opinion the HD660s is the best headphone in the series. It has the biggest sound stage while not departing from the original sound too much like the HD660s2 do. I love them so much.

Thanks for this video, I’d been looking into excuses to validate my HD600 purchase, and this video pretty much summed up what I had been feeling, seeing as I bought the 600s based on your recommendations. That being said, I do genuinely enjoy the mid-range (especially female vocals) of the 600s and I plan to use these for the foreseeable future and I look forward to testing out many different genres of music with these moving forward.

From one
Josh to another, thank you for your amazing videos and I’m looking forward to more spectacular videos going forward!

My top two are the HD 599 SE and HD 6XX. Thank you Josh for being so informative and accessible. I rely heavily upon your take on all things audio related.

I just got the 660s for around $250 and I’m in heaven! The sound is phenomenal! Plus, they still give that storage case with the 660s, unlike the 660s2.

Great video and very educational. I've had the HD 660S' for a couple of years now and really like them. I recently purchased a pair of HD 6XX's from Drop when they were on sale for $199, which also sound great. For headphones that look extremely similar and share the same lineage, it's crazy how different they sound! I wasn't expecting that and I'm not sure if I prefer one over the other, but it's great to have the choice.

I got the HD660s2 for about 350 USD just a couple of days ago. Absolutely love the sound signature of these headphones. I've only tried the HD650 in the 6 series and I totally prefer the HD660s2. These sound great for all genres and are less shouty in the treble. The bass is more substantial and the mids are smooth. They even feel slightly more comfortable than the 650. I have 0 complaints.

I know they don't make or talk about the H580, but certainly you should have mentioned the still available and recent HD58X.

I’ve bought the HD6xx a while back. This is my first headphone. At first indeed it was “muddy” sounding to me, but i EQ’d it a little bit and now i love it. I can listen to it for hours on end. I also tried some Beyerdynamics, but had a feeling like they were a bit “sloppy” in their sound signature. I was tired after listening to those. I really like the fact that you differentiate each headphone’s character and sound signature. Makes me want to try some different HD cans. Thank you for al your hard work and nice video’s. Keep it up. I really appreciate it and get a ton of info. Makes buying and trying stuff way easier!

I'm perfectly happy with my HD58X Jubilee, best of both worlds I feel like...It's 150ohms so it's easy to run, even from my macbook. Sounds great and it was way cheaper than the others. My other preferred headphone would be the HD660S. I listened to all 600 series headphones and I liked the HS660S the most. All reviews said the HD58X sounds very close to the 660S and I agree. But the HD58X is way cheaper so I'm very very happy with it :)

HD650 black silk version - that is my favorite. Its the best of both worlds. Good body and nice treble. Had the 600 too but I prefer the 650.

I got the HD580 in 2005 for $154 shipped brand new in the box. Sennheiser discontinued the HD580 cuz it is the 600 for dirt cheap. Same driver. Back in the day they said the 650 would "continue to improve with better DACs/amps" but the 580/600 wouldn't. This has not been my experience. Also I miss when I thought $500 was an "expensive" headphone lol

Sounds like I need to go audition the HD600. Have a pair of the 6XX and listen to a lot of vocals, and I definitely prefer it when the vocals aren't drown out or at-level with the background music. I want the vocals to be center-stage, and the instruments to be there just to "accompany" the vocals, like how a vase presents a flower, instruments should present the vocal to the listener.

Thank you for this video! The differences with these headphones have always been unresolved for me in the back of my head.

I don't own the 650s, but I do own the 660s, the 6XX and the 58X, they all have slightly different sounds, but I will tell you that none of them sound incomplete. A couple small mods to my 58x really opened them up, I did this after a Zeos review of the 58x. I love the way all of my Sennheisers sound. I recently purchased the ThieAudio Ghosts, which are currently on my head and I have been giving them the run down, pad swapping and amp swapping to find how I like them set up. So far I love the Ghosts and for the price they are punching up there pretty hard against some of the Sennheisers.

Thank you 'JV'! I agree wholeheartedly with your conclusion. When my current 'main cans' wear out (if ever!) I will get the HD600s. Just watched / listened to your great review through my Sennheiser HD580s 😉 ...

Excellent timing for the video! I was looking exactly this comparison and history since the release of the 660s2

I'll add my thumbs up. I love these headphones - all my others sit in the bottom drawer. The fact you can wear them for hours without discomfort is a plus.

Thanks Josh, great video, HD600 was indeed my intro into 'better' headphones, many have come and gone since, but these are staying on the wall!
