Why didn't CYPRUS win EUROVISION 2018?

It's my fave song so far from the competition, so it's only fair that I make a video about it haha...

But what do you think? Why did Eleni not take it for Cyprus for the first time ever? Why did Fuego burn the competition down?

My opinion on this:
When Fuego was released back in February 2018, it was good, but it wasn't even considered as a top 10 entry, meanwhile, Toy was the favorite from it's release date. We all knew that Israel had the win.
But then came the rehearsals.
Eleni _delivered_ on stage, her performance was absolutely divine, but the hype wasn't enough.
2 weeks are not enough to overthrow the favorite. Not to mention the viewers at home who were listening to the songs for first time. To be fair though, on the day of the grand final, Eleni *_actually_* was the favorite.
But in the end, they didn't win. On the other hand, she gained more popularity than Netta.

I am Greek and foureira before eurovision was having a great career in Greece. I think she won the contest but because of money they didnt gave her the first place

what you said about Cyprus is true. Unfortunately not many countries vote up for Cyprus. For me both songs were nice but Fuego was the one who stayed in history. On the other hand there was a rumor about Israel in 2018. The rumor said that Israel bought their victory. Eurovision though is political. its really obvious especially last year. Even madonnas dancers had the Palestinian flag on their back. FYR of Macedonia was named North Macedonia and boom they got all the juries 12 points. I really want Cyprus to finally win the competition because they have been trying for so many years, but i dont think that they will ever win. So for me i think they should drop out.

I think Toy brought something new and unique to the table, while also being catchy and accessible. Fuego is amazing, but caters to a slightly narrower audience, maybe.

The weird thing was when Netta and Eleni perform in Semi Final and Eleni win the semi final and Netta get second place 😅😂 Like wtf EBU everybody know that Cyprus is the real winner but maybe Israel have more $$$ 😅

A personal opinion on Netta being better than Eleni is of course a valid personal opinion. My personal experience from my travels across Europe is that though Toy may have more views still, and rightly so as it is a WINNING song, more people seem to still play Fuego. The the initial impact that Toy had to get the win faded very quickly. As for meaningful lyrics, I imagine most voters were more moved by the "mother f*kker" beat (as most people seemed to understand it) than the actual lyrics.
One argument to prove the quality of Toy over Fuego that Israel also doesn't have neighbours to vote for it is completely invalid. To discount the many millions of Jews across Europe, who feel a strong affinity with Israel is blinkered at the very least. Not even Greece has that big a diaspora, never mind tiny Cyprus.
Both presentations were excellent, Netta was a worth winner, but it's a shame Cyprus couldn't get a deserving first win instead of another one for Israel's.
