How To Design Camouflages For Your Models in Photoshop

Creating a color profile for your scale models can help you paint better camouflages without experimenting on the actual model.
There are many different softwares which you can use - Illustrator, Corel Draw, also some good freebies like Gimp, SAI, Krita, Inkscape...

Some free software which can do this simple task just as good: Gimp, Inkscape, Paint tool SAI, Krita.
Also, I dunno if was just me or the entire video description disappeared along with the title??? Like, I open it up and the title is Timeline 1? Seriously youtube 😑

Another way to do this is instead of using line art of the tank, to use a photo of your model in grey primer. If you set the color blending mode to color, you can try out different schemes by painting on a layer above your photo and still retain all the shading info from the photo. I’m still figuring this out, but so far it’s really helpful.

I am glad there are no bloopers today. Your content is good enough by itself and to he honest not every episode has to have them. If they occur, fine, put them on. But sometimes they appeared rather forced into your videos.
Looking forward to your next video.

That Windows sound nearly gave me a heart attack lol.
I used to do this with pen and paper, which was oddly enjoyable, but I do like the fly by the seat of your pants and see how the paint lands method.

Instead of using the magic wand for the extra layers, use a clipping mask (layer), it's easier, and is a bit more flexible when editing later :)

Please google how to use masks in photoshop! Solid color layer with painted mask much better because you don't need to repaint from scratch all everything if you color was wrong or you want another copy of the same pattern but with another color. And its better to multiply B&W layer on top instead of colored on top - it is easyer to mix colored layers when they in normal mode. Usualy you use muliply with colored layer to change the tint of an image. And I have to say as an CG artist I found alot of useful information in your videos, so please do not stop making them! Cheers!

You can also create an “adjustment layer” instead of color overlay - to play around with color settings, like hue/saturation, gradients, brightness, etc. if you don’t like it, you can delete or hide the layer without harming the original. There is always at least 2-3 ways to do something in photoshop. 😊

My only photoshop note is instead of using magic wand to select that shape, just hold control (command) and left click the thumbnail. It selects all pixels within the layer. I would also suggest using an inverted mask with those pixels on top so anything underneath won't bleed through. Or a clipping mask. Working with an active selection can be tricky.

Given many pre-00's kits come with a basic black & white paint instruction, this is particularly useful :) .

Fourth time nagging you about this. ^^ It would be awesome to see you do your magic on a tank from Warhammer 40k!

Very cool! I have done this for other things, but never considered doing it for camo profiles! And if I had, I wouldn't have considered using actual paint swatches. And if I had, I wouldn't have considered changing their tone or brightness. Excellent video!!

Instead of color overlay you can just hit Ctrl+U to adjust Hue/Saturation. Works good for altering colors.
