Apple Silicon is the Final Nail in the Coffin for Gaming, they said. Apple Silicon GPUs are too weak compared to discrete GPUs, they said.. Here's why they're WRONG!

Gaming hasn't been Apple's strong-suit when it comes to the Mac, but it's all about to change right now!

In this video, I show you the hidden details that I found within Apple's WWDC Developer Tutorial videos that reveal why Gaming is coming back to the Mac!

We discuss why developers will now start making games for Mac, and how Apple's System on a chip design is going to be powerful enough to play AAA title games!

We discuss the technology and the current gaming market on various different platforms.

We talk about where gaming is heading going into the future, and we discuss how Gaming will work on Apple devices, including cross-platform gaming.

You're selling that Apple silicon better than Apple 😀

One of the reasons that I watch nearly every video that you make is because you do your homework and you don’t mess with the information with fluff talk. I think you are spot on about the ARM based Macs and gaming. I actually think gaming might be better than ever before. Apple would never let a growing market like gaming go away. I suspicion that we will be pleasantly surprised when these ARM based Macs arrive. Great video!

One of your most insightful videos. The comparison to the consoles is spot on. What most people don’t understand is that nobody uses discrete GPUs when they don’t have to. They take up more space and rely on split memory configurations that are much more expensive. Laptops use discrete GPUs simply because they don’t yet have access to an SoC that is comparable to the next gen consoles or what Nvidia graphics cards can do, since those aren’t available as an SoC combined with a CPU. But within a couple of years I could see Zen and RDNA being combined to deliver well over 8-10 tfps in a mobile SoC. The biggest problem is CPUs and GPUs mostly come from different vendors and even if they come from one source (AMD being the only vendor to make both) you still have to offer different configurations which makes it impossible to make SoCs that cover all the range of performance customers ask for. Combining i5/i7/i9 with 1660ti/2060/2060super/2070 and more is obviously easier with a Motherboard with separate CPU and GPU sockets instead of making 20 different SoCs that cover any given combination of those components. Apple doesn’t have that issue. They love offering streamlined configurations that are better optimized for any given device and they also have much more leeway in pricing since their own processors will be cheaper to produce in the long run. And with the iPad getting more and more powerful and now supporting mouse and keyboard input Apple will have an ARM gaming ecosystem in a couple of years that is both bigger and more powerful than the Nintendo Switch (which by all accounts has the best ARM games on any platform).

The games you mentioned making big revenue are all shitty "free to install" games that contain micro-transactions left n right. It's good to see mobile getting more games but the vast majority of them are bad.

Here's what I understand.
- Developers can create games for iPhone, iPad and apple silicon Mac with low costs.
- So, AAA game makers are going to create games for the apple silicon mac (probably as a by-product of iPhone and iPad games).
- But probably those are AAA game titles without AAA graphics.

Around 9:00 "with high quality graphics to the mac", I'm not so sure what exactly "high quality" means. I feel it's "decent quality" at least in the next few years. The standard of graphics in PC games is higher and higher.

I mean the A12Z runs Fortnite 120 FPS capped without active cooling on iPad Pro

Of course even better Hardware and software Support will push gaming to a new Level

Traditional PC gamers: gaming is dead on Macs because of this transition.

Me: wait, since when Mac gaming was alive? If anything, this is the birth of gaming on Mac. I can finally have the same gaming capabilities that my iPad Pro has on a Mac.

Your recent videos straight up boosted my respect for this channel.
I even scrolled down and I didn't see any "discreet vs integrated GPU" comments. I'm sure they're now convinced.
At least, I know I am.

But let’s be honest… which iOS games do you really want on your Mac??? They’re usually just a crappier version of the original eg; COD, PUBG, Fortnite etc.

I agree on the one fact that Mac will be getting plethora of mobile games, but I strongly believe that AAA will be staying exclusive to consoles and PC, there's simply no incentive for developers to put effort into porting AAA to metal.

If I could buy 1 game and play across all my Apple devices, that would be the dream. If I don’t have time to continue on my Mac, I’d just switch to mobile and play when I can. Then if I want it big on my tv I could just switch over. Arghh to endless possibilities 🤤

non-discrete GPUs are nothing new and console makers definitely are not doing the "switching" as you said in 1:50 as they were doing this since the start and it's also not unique on desktops also as Intel+AMD had a collaboration where their CPU+GPU shared the same die, it just didn't sell well because desktop users (Windows) love customisation and the ability to get their own components for cheaper prices... the only difference is that Apple is using the same concept with ARM.
What I want to know is how powerful their GPU really will be, as in close a 1660ti or 2060, if not I would have to question why they dropped AMD for something worse

You guys have been one of my favorite you tube tech channels for a while now with all the testing, comparing and real world testing but your latest coverage of this arm stuff has been eye opening and very well prepared and explained. Including this video. Another level. Great work. Keep doing what you are doing and hopefully YT algorithm will wake up and send more views your way. You well deserve it.

Completely agree! Arm based Macs will natively support mobile games across all its devices and future forecasts show money is headed into the mobile market, so will developers. Plus, the adoption of 120Hz Pro Motion Displays, low latency 5G networking, and improved battery technology, gaming on mobile is the wave.

I hate how the future of gaming will be stuck behind pay walls. This is why I miss games like Chaos Rings. They tried to be real games, suceeding in my opinion, on mobile...but now they're gone.

Strongly disagree.

Console APUs are HUGE, and expensive, so they can have decent GPU performance. Apple is not going to put a console size die on mainstream products, so their GPU will be nowhere near new PS5/XB peformance.

Also having all the iPad/iPhone games dumped on ARM Macs will be more of roadblock, as will encouraging more iPhone/iPad game ports.

ARM Macs will end up with more games, but it wont' be AAA games. It will be more casual and ported mobile games.

So should I wait for an ARM MacBook or get an iPad Pro with the magic keyboard?
