Why FNaF 3 Is the Best in the Franchise

While many consider Five Nights at Freddy's 3 to be the worst game in the series, it's always been my favorite. I've wanted to make this video for a while now, but I finally got the motivation to sit down and do it. I hope that I was able to give some appreciation to this very underrated game.

All music and gameplay shown and discussed in this video is property of Scott Cawthon. If this video interested you, I highly recommend playing this, and the rest of the FNaF series to show some appreciation for what went into them.

Woah this video's gotten a lot of attention recently, I really appreciate seeing so many people suddenly showing up to share their opinions about it. In light of this I'm gonna have to start uploading some more soon! Hope you all enjoy whatever videos I upload on here later, I appreciate all the sudden support.

A part of Springtrap's design concept that often goes overlooked: like the other antagonists, he is a possessed and hostile animatronic, but where the others are possessed in a very detached/ghostly sense, Springtrap is more akin to a zombie. He's the first example of body horror in the series, reserved to juxtapose him with his victims.

What I love about springtrap is, in some cam screens his animatronic eyes are looking forward while his eyes are looking at the camera, then there is how he hides in the darker areas, it doesn't feel like you trying to escape robots but something that's aware enough to use it's environment to it's advantage.

Personally I love Springtrap’s jump scares because unlike the other animatronics, he isn’t going for the shock factor. He isn’t angry, he isn’t lashing out- he’s a cold, methodical killer slowly moving closer to a victim he knows is paralyzed with fear.

I was always thankful that springtrap never physically crawled through the vents, he just kind of sat there and stared at you.

Then Help Wanted came out.

Something I really love about this game is how human and intelligent Springtrap seems to the player. He immediately uses distractions like the phantoms and audio errors. He will go back to previous rooms on his own to try and fake you out, and to use vents that had been previously blocked. Probably the best example is how he hides himself in the cameras, often you can only see his hand, or his foot, or just the side of his smiling face. It gives me a really chilling feeling when I stare at a camera trying to find him, only to get a glimpse of his face, realizing he had been staring at me the whole time.

One of the creepiest/coolest details about this game that I never really see mentioned anywhere has to do with the audio lures. The reason that they work is because the Spring Bonnie animatronic is built to follow the sounds of children. Since the suit is in animatronic mode while Purple Guy is inside, every time we use an audio lure his robot body is literally being pulled in another direction while he tries desperately to regain control and advance toward us.

It's wholesome to think that Scott was so underwhelmed by this entry he made the next one to make up for it, but someone _still_ liked this game enough to make a passion fueled video essay about it
Just goes to show even the things you aren't proud of can be appreciated and enjoyed

Playing 3 in VR is truly terrifying, the dread after seeing the vent rught next to you and springtrap crawling through it is terrifying

Just the fact that Springtrap actively HIDES from your line of sight in the cameras is a terrifying consept that I think was sadly never done again in FNAF. Just goes to show how wickely smart Afton is.

Curiously enough, a lot of people feel the same way about FNAF 6, that it closed the franchise incredibly, and I kind of agree, that ending monologue is one of the best.

I think the greatest part of fnaf 3 is that, instead of looking after four semi-dangerous entities, you're facing one VERY dangerous entity. It's like you're dueling with someone who is always one step away from killing you. And the shear PANIC of when one of the phantoms makes you lose track of your *one true threat* is unspeakably perfect for the game.

I feel like with the reveal of William being Springtrap it makes the game a whole lot more horrifying since the child murderer himself is hunting you down

The character of Springtrap ALONE, his design, backstory, how he came to be and how much he contributed to the series' lore puts this one above all the others for me.

Spring traps mediocre jump scare makes sense in my opinion, you can't just jump up and shake your head at the security guard when you have just woken up from being trapped inside of a heavy suit for years

I think the concept of a single enemy really works here. Beforehand, the multiple robots were designed to balance out the difficulty, meaning individually they weren’t too overwhelming. When you got this one unrelenting threat that comes from all sides after you, it’s so much more… personal.

mmm i don’t know. i agree with pretty much every point save for the thought that this could be the end. i think 6 needed to exist, and i think it should have been the true ending, simply because it was so conclusive. this game, however, was a very good midpoint for the series

To this day, I consider Springtrap to be the greatest character design and *concept* in the whole franchise, and most fan games for that matter. Everything about him is damn near perfect, and he's the only animatronic that genuinely intimidates me...

One thing i always liked is how he adapts and changes basically doing everything every other animatronic could in a way. Hes not a child stuck in a clunky body. This is actually normal to him, hes used to sneaking around in that suit with the only trouble is the suit and his body are rusted and rotted

I personally don’t agree with Fnaf 3 being the best, but it’s the most underrated Fnaf game ever and definitely top 5, the gameplay can be a little lacking sometimes, but it’s still got the best atmosphere out of all the games, it’s also the best one in lore-wise for sure, and seeing Springtrap right in front of you is pretty spooky, his jump-scare may not be the best, but at least he gives us a death-stare which is creepy.
