It's all great until the app crashes or you accidentally click an advert which takes 5 mins to open while it gracefully flies away

Never appreciated how amazing these are. These are sold where i work and i've always just saw them as something that someone might use to film a prank or something.

First Impressions. 8 Dec 2014
Just bought the Bebop drone and have had a couple of hours to play with it.  Out of the box it seems fairly well built and sold.  A couple of minor crashes flying it round the house supported this impression.
It is relatively easy to fly and the smartphone / tablet app works well.  My only real gripe the the App is that you have to be connected to the drone to even see any of the settings.
Battery life is a problem, but this is true of most the drones out there.  Perhaps the $1000.00 plus quad-copters do better but I don't know.  As is I'm only getting 6 mins or so fly time per battery and it takes about an hour  to fully charge it.  While it does come with two batteries you can only charge on at a time with the included charger.  So you get about 10 to 12 mins "play" time then your done for a couple of hours.  Not a good ratio.
There are a couple of things about the Bebop that I thing that Parrot could improve on.  One the Battery does not feel like it locks in very securely,  either in the drone itself or the charger.  I would like to see a more positive locking device.
Two, with the land button it touches down a little on the hard side and the landing support have no give or shock absorption to speak of.
Three, the lens cap is a bit on the cheap side.  It too should snap into place rather the using a rubber band to hold it on.
Four,  As I said earlier you have to have the drone powered up and connected to you controller to do any thing with the App,  checking settings, transferring video and so on.  This would not be as big an issue if it weren't for the extremely short battery life.  The USB connection to a computer should be able to provide enough power to the drone to transfer videos and pics as will as let you update the firmware.  But even for that you have to have the drone powered up.

All and all though I am happy with the product and would recommend it.  Just be aware of it short comings and do get all bent out of shape when you run into them.  There is room for improvement in the Bebop, but that is to be expected.  Hopefully Parrot will continue too do  so.  Maybe come out with a multi-battery quick charger that can knock the charge time down to the half hour range.

One last  gripe, Parrot should have had replacement parts and spare batteries available when they released the Bebop for sale.  As of this posting all of that is still shown as "Coming Soon"

I like the way they're setting themselves up nicely with the name "bebop" for the next version with a gimble that they can call "rocksteady"! :D

I think the only thing this video revealed was that crop circles were not the work of extraterrestrials, but of hipsters with nothing else to do after the coffee shops are closed.

I'd be pissed if all those people came and fucked up my drawing

In RL: battery-load will last from "hey, i found a stick, lets paint a giant .. fish!?" till "look, the eye is ready!". Alternativly: drone blown away by gentle breeze.

I like the fact that if the FAA do crack down on drones and there has to be very low weight restrictions we can still have fun and take good footage, fpv ect and the technology will only improve

Oh yes! I cannot wait for this. I love my AR 2.0 and this new model looks like a significant and worthwhile upgrade. I'm okay with the battery life, I'll buy a few of them. Give me a good list price in line with what you've done in the past because it'd be a lot less fun to watch a larger investment crash and burn, which is of course inevitable with these things.

I like this product - very clever - eliminates the wires I see on cameras in the NFL and NBA

How many battery switches was required to film this; 50 plus?
Great little drone, but very poor flight times.
