I saw this happen on the vlive LIVE. Like wtf, Yoon picked the middle ground answer, the safe one--like what else do you want her to say??? She has fans who want her to perform at a military concert and fans who don't think she should since STAYC is underaged and a rookie group, so to compromise, Yoon said she means all concerts. (Her previous answer was: I wish I could perform for military but we can't because of the v*rus.) What's the big deal??? And people are still blasting her today? Grown ass men are actually bullying a 17 year old??? I'm actually done with society.

A Korean SWITH here. This video was on my recommendations, and I found some parts inaccurate. I felt the hatred towards Korean men in the comment section was unnecessary, so I decided to explain the situation that you foreigners may not understand. And just to clarify, Yoon did nothing wrong and the general Korean population thinks the same, unlike what this video shows.



The reason why this became such a big issue in South Korea is because

1. Comments on the Vlive were written by people who think military concert is a sexual service (which is not, and I will get to it later), and thus minors shouldn't perform.
2. Some haters (shown in the video) misunderstood what Yoon meant in the last sentence and associated Yoon with men-hating, radical feminists.



First point, the Vlive comments that followed after Yoon mentioned military concert were very negative and telling them not to perform in front of the military because they are minors. Military concerts are not inherently sexual, the point is to cheer Korean young adults, majority of them of age 20-22, who were forced to go to the military. To boost their morale, popular kpop idols or singers come to perform. This is not sexual as a lot of male performers like PSY, Norazo and Min Kyung Hoon perform too. Yes, I know some weirdos may take it sexual, but that can be said about any large group of people. How is it different from any other concerts that have a lot of male audience as well? I see a lot of people saying there are disgusting old men in the military and most of the soldiers are over 26. Kpop male idols serve at age 26 and over because they delay it as much as possible, and I don't see any problem with old men being part of the audience. No one gives a crap when creepy grandmothers sexualize and fantasize over boy idol groups right? It does not make it sexual just because they perform in front of an audience that has male majority, thus being a minor has nothing to do with it.



Second point, despite Yoon saying positive things about being popular among the soldiers in the first part, people misunderstood the last sentence. After negative vlive comments appeared, Yoon tried to calm the situation down by saying 위문공연이 아니라 그냥 공연 말하고 있는 겁니다, don't worry. This translates to "Not "weemoon concerts", I am talking about just normal concerts. "Weemoon concert" is a term used to describe military concerts in Korea. "Weemoon" is misinterpreted by many for having same "wee" as in "Weeanbu" which means comfort women. This is why some people think military concerts are sexual, because of the Korean name for it. "Weemoon" just means to support. Yoon thought there was another meaning to the word because there were comments that were very against it.






My last message would be to not write hateful comments based on 1 short video about events happening in a country where you do not know their language, nor background information on why it led to this issue. Hopefully, this answers "How are Korean men so disgusting and evil?" comments.
