HIDDEN FIGURES is the incredible untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe)—brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.

I love that she did not try to tear him down for being disrespectful, but instead lifted herself up, telling him what she could do. It‘s about mutual respect.

What I loved about this scene is the fact that he acknowledged right away that he had stuck his foot in his mouth.

The sass and shade in this film are off the charts - and I love every second of it.

Oh, such grace, such humor and such guts! I loved the move at the end, pushing her glasses up on her nose. Oh, this tall man just fell under her formidable spell!

I love how he realizes his mistake immediately . Had he taken more than a second to form a response, he would never have said that, not only because he knew it would offend her, but because he probably doesn’t believe it himself.

There was simply no commonly held rhetoric during this time that women could hold positions of such importance, so he had nothing to immediately pull from to comment on in the cultural context. This is one of the only times saying he’s a “product of his time” is acceptable, because he knew right after that he was wrong, and never made the same mistake again.

The bigger irony of the scene, which is why I loved the depth of the scene, was that was the era (late 50's early 60's) where Black Men were told that they didn't have the mental capacity to fly Jet Planes and do other complex duties in the Military that required advanced levels of brainpower. Black soldiers have always found that very offensive, so he kinda should have known better, but he's more in this case, a microcosm of the world at large, that people can't see their own biases.

But, he caught it right away, it's a safe bet, he'll never think like that again. She liked him, so she cut him some slack, she knew, mathematically, he just needed some "tweaking" to his

It was a brilliant movie. I am grateful it was made. I wish I had heard of the book the film was based on far sooner than I did.
