Rugby Referee Analysis: Ben Whitehouse Performance Review | It was bad...Really bad!

Here is the Full review of Ben Whitehouse on how bad he was in the URC match of Edinburgh vs Bulls. He was so inconsistent with everything and there were definitely some shocking calls missed that was very dangerous. He just has no vision and also a lack of knowledge around the laws, especially around ruck time where he missed so many things.

It's okay if you're bad, as long as you're consistent with your decisions. A bad ref can still have a good game if he blows consistently. The thing with Ben Whitehouse is that he blows a penalty for one thing, then he'll ignore it throughout the entire game. It's like he can't make up his mind as to how he wants to ref. His very inconsistent with his knowledge of the laws and can't apply them fairly throughout the game.

His Lineout calls were also horrible because he gave 3 penalties when a team would throw their jumper towards the opposition team. Then he goes on and ignores it throughout the game. He should decide, is he going to penalize it or not? you can't decide to penalize it one time and ignore it entirely the other time. Be consistent!

He was shockingly bad!

Ben Whitehouse enjoys the limelight and attention while referring, I bet that while he refs, in the back of his mind he is just hoping he'll make it into one of those YouTube Referring compilations. The completely wrong attitude for a referee to have. The best ref is only seen when they're needed and heard when necessary.

I Really hope.. this gets atleast a look from WRU and truely hopes Springboks don't get any of these slow standard of refs for their November Northern Hemisphere tour....please not.

I will gladly help support these videos! To get the truth out about how bad the ref's are in this game. Keep going and always keep showing both sides and not only one side.

Thank you

Thank you for showing BOTH sides of the story. That ref should be playing “left off” position

He needs to go back to provincial or national matches. Focus on his refereeing. His not fit for a competition of this caliber. If the inconsistencies continue, teams will pick them up and start taking advantage.

Great that you bringing both sides of good and bad calls …. Might be reflective and for consistency to have similar things done for other teams/games that dont involve SA teams …although sounds like a few NH guys say similar things at least about this guys reffing … but if we going for consistency then stats across the board for everyone showing similar issues should be a slap in the face way up call to WR hey …..

Another bad thing is that there are linesmen to watch for these type of incidents and not a word comes from either of them. Just shows the state of rugby at the moment, not in all scenarios though. Great video by the way! Thank you very much for this.

Awesome, I have been waiting for another in depth video of yours! However you are unfortunately incorrect, the ref was very consistent! Consistently bad, that is :P

Shocking, incredibly inconsistent by all of the referrees. Don't get me started on skew line-outs never being blown in any international or national match. This is professional rugby folks... you learn the basics at school boy rugby level. The players know the rules... it is time that the refs and the IRU catch up.
TAS Analytics.. thanks for all of the great insights!

Ben Shitehouse should never referee at these level. Too much for him.

The handoffs are a bit ridiculous tbh. You cant predict what movement the tackler is going to make at the very last split second, most of the times they dip and the offensive player cannot anticipate this while fending them off.

Thank you for making these videos!!

TAS, I feel sorry for the teams penalised for jumping across... the real problem is that the ball was never in the middle... and that can be see from all the two handed catches above the locks' head you see at every level now. If you are catching it that way, you either jumped in or the ball was crooked.

Most common cause? Hooker takes a sneaky step towards his team. Teams steal half a yard and then slide back whilst complaining about the others closing the gap. Look, every team does this, it's not rocket science. Penalize the squint throws AND teams jumping across, but both not one or the other. In fairness to the refs and ARs, when there is a lot of movement in the line outs, it can be hard to recall exactly where the middle is.. or... was.

And if you need proof it isn't an NH versus Bok thing, just watch Munster's first 'try' against Connacht. 😖 On a positive note, some of the SA teams are beginning to win (or draw) and you have the fun of watching us poor celts spontaneously combust in 30C when the return matches run out...

Bad calls, most against SA sides. These are very brutal tackles that are left unpenalized. I feel like The unfairness to SA sides will result in breeding very dangerous monster players Once Our teams adopt. They're trying so hard to match our physicality but in doing so they are playing very dangerously and that could lead to fatal injuries. We should be patient in playing with their rules and officials but once we adopt our teams will be Difficult to stop. Our local teams needed a competition to expose them so that we are not only a national champions with overseas players but also we'll produce deeper depth of world players Because all the European teams that we're playing against have world class international players. I mean it's good for us really. The desire to win and be the best is in every SA team, . BAD Referring won't kill us but instead our players will be a breed of monstrous different species

Keep these vids coming man....these refs are bad for business. Only making the SA players smarter for future games by pointing out the ref's.

Refs are killing the game of rugby. I don't even want to talk about the TMO's

Ben Whitehouse looks and refs like he is officiating a high school game. He is extremely amateurish.

8:53 it is the responsibility of the tackler/jackler to remain on their feet at any point while contesting in a ruck. Nowadays with new laws coming in, any slight picture of a player going off their feet, such as the penalty awarded by Ben, is an immediate penalty.

That second example is kuk. neck rolls are illegal but if you slow down each ruck, it happens ALL the time. the "dangerous clean" wasn't dangerous at all. The term "with force" needs to be scrapped, everything on a rugby field is done with force. Also, I would suggest the defending players in the ruck need to take more responsibility rolling away from the ruck instead of the impetus always being on the attacking team to clear the bodies away.
