F1 safety car CRASHES at the ITALIAN GP!

In a freak accident, the F1 safety car CRASHED in Monza yesterday! It's not often that the F1 safety car crashes, in fact, the Monza F1 safety car crash was I believe the first time it's happened in my time as an F1 photographer. In this video, I will run you through the aftermath of the F1 safety car crash Monza as well as give you some other F1 news straight from the paddock at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix.

Apparently the Safety car crashed because of a brake failure, which is why Bernd flicked it sideways (hence the screeching) to reduce momentum before going into the gravel and hitting the barrier. So even crashing is done skillfully by this driver😅

Apparently there have been 4 safety car crashes since 1995 Hungarian Gp, 2000 Monaco, 2002 Brazilian GP & now 2024 Monza 😂🤷

The safety car accident looked like a case of brake failure followed by Bernd Maylander deliberately throwing the car into a skid to reduce speed and aimed at crashing into the softest part of the barrier - the tecpro. Looks like a top notch job by Bernd in handling a very serious emergency situation.

I was in Monza in 1998 for the first time and witnessed Schumacher and Irvine in Ferraris in a 1-2 finish. It was the most festive celebration in person I ever witnessed at a sporting event in my life. Just incredible.

The biggest pace car (safety car) crash I recall was at the start of the 1971 Indianapolis 500. After leading the field to the green flag, the pace car, driven by a local car dealer and with one of the TV announcing crew as passenger, lost control while returning to the car's ready station and crashed into a photographers' stand, injuring 29 people. It was the last time someone without racing credentials was selected to drive the pace car for The 500.

Last time I saw a safety car crash was at the 2019 Indicar Detroit GP (a ZR1 Corvette).

Apparently the brakes suddenly locked up, I saw a video of the crash and you can see definitely something happened before the crash. Between the noise and movement of the car it makes sense
