It is known for more than 40 years that the memory of our immunity for common cold coronavirus doesn't last long. I assume that our immunity will have the same problem with sar-cov2. If so, we will need a booster dose every several years. The boosters provide the latest updated versions of any meaningfully new genetic changes of sar-cov2 variants.
