why does alkalosis lead to hypokalemia?

Hey, quick question, why do we tell people to breath into a brown paper bag when they are hyperventilating? Aren't they breathing out CO2, so wouldn't this continue intake of CO2 (from inside the bag)?

Wait wait, 30 seconds in and I'm already confused. You say to much co2 causes acidosis. My carbon dioxide in blood is a lil elevated and my dr said that means I'm more towards alkalosis .

I have a doubt. If he is hyperventilating secondary to the motor vehicle accident, That means increased PACo2 washout. That causes a low PACO2, so shouldn't the be PAO2/paO2 be high ?

08:00 doesn't shallow breathing increase PaCO2 (CO2 retention)?

Question: how come the embolism means with hyperventilation there’s still low PaO2 if the CO2 is washed out just fine? If it obstructs O2 coming in, shouldn’t it also obstruct CO2 going out? I didn’t know which to pick from B & C because of this train of thought.

Is there any way you can please contact me directly? I would pay you for your time. I have a dear friend who is fighting for his life right now. The hospitals have failed to give him proper medical care for Reefeding syndrome.
