Philip Sly is an exquisite, consummate artist with a rich, gorgeous voice. I never tire of hearing him sing this piece.

I sometimes worry that best classical performances are in my past. Then, I hear a performance like this, and I am certain sheer virtuosity belongs to no single era. You two gentlemen are gifted performers. I salute you and thank you for sharing your remarkable gifts.

As a young baritone who is currently in school, I am listening to this several times a day. An inspiration at a level I can't even describe. I can only hope and dream that I can reach such a level at any age, and until then, and past then if it comes, I enjoy more than anything listening to this stunning voice sing at a level of mastery far beyond it's age.

I have listened to video 10 times . Each time it becomes for me, more grand, more majestic, and ever more beautiful.

There are moments nature produces two such gifted performers. Mr. De Sousa matches the emotion of Mr. Sly's vocal virtuosity with every keystroke. A nod to the Steinway for its lovely deep and resonant sound. Perfection.

I would love to hear this live with a full orchestra and Philippe, I think it would be stunning.

I just can’t stop listening to this wonderful performance. I am used to hearing a female voice singing this but I was bowled over by this man. Also used to the orchestra backing but I didn’t really miss it!

In this most sad of Thanksgivings down here in the USA and on this planet earth, we thank you both all for this heartfelt song to life and death. Yes we really are tired and running from this world, but we must continue to engage in it, one foot in front of the other. Please continue to sing and inspire us, because WE SO NEED INSPIRATION RIGHT NOW WE CANNOT DO IT WITHOUT YOU

The first noble truth of the Buddha being performed by these two phenomenal musicians.

In meinem Lieben, in meinem Lied!
—Friedrich Rückert.

I am lost to the world
With which I used to waste much time;
It has for so long known nothing of me,
It may well believe that I am dead.
Nor am I at all concerned
If it should think that I am dead.
Nor can I deny it,
For truly I am dead to the world.
I am dead to the world’s tumult
And rest in a quiet realm!
I live alone in my heaven,
In my love, in my song!
—Friedrich Rückert

Sometimes in a performance everything just meshes, you are "in the zone" as they say.
Here, singer, pianist and videographer are "in the zone."

This is just excellent!
Thank you for sharing it with us.

I can't tell you how many levels of grief this rendition has gotten me through. Jordan and Philippe, Thank consoling, a cool, almost Buddhist sense of what Vergil called "Lacrimae rerum" (the tears of things)
