5 Secrets of AMAZING Glow Effects for Warhammer

In this tutorial we will look at how to paint Glow Effects aka Object Source Lighting. OSL might seem quite overwhelming at first, but this guide should make painting any glow effects easier!

Non Metallic Metal and Object Source Lighting are considered 2 of the more difficult miniature painting techniques out there. I have picked Squig Hopper miniature from Warhammer age of simgar Gloomspite Gitz to show exactly how it's done. Even though I am painting OSL on the mushroom, you can absolutely replicate this effect on anything that is supposed to glow. Glowing plasma weapons for Space Marines or Tau Crisis Suit immidiately come to mind - in general there is a lot of glowing stuff in Warhammer 40 000.

When I first discovered your channel, I used to save every video to my "warhammer painting" playlist. I stopped doing that a while ago. Now I just go to this channel every time I'm thinking about trying out a new technique or one I haven't used in a while. In my opinion the best painting tutorial channel, with very clear and short instruction videos!

The only problem I have is trying to decide which is more magnificent: your painting or your beard. Thanks for the super tutorial!

I've been scared to try OSL - literally...because I feel like I will wreck a well-painted miniature if I mess it up! This guide is really helpful and I see that you did, in fact, paint the miniature and then add the osl effects (I wasn't sure if that was the way to do it or not).

I've only just discovered this channel but it's probably the best I've seen. No beating around the bush, just "Wanna do something? Here's how." Thank you for your contribution to the painting community!

You're also the only painting tutorialist I've seen who uses glazes to paint gradients - I thought I was alone!

This is exactly the effect I'm going for with my Red Skull and Thor, so this is perfect timing. Thanks a lot!

taking a picture of the lit model to see where the highlights would sit is such a good idea!

Awesome. Always so clear and easy to understand. And yes, I do find OSL difficult. But I’m going to practice now!! Top job cheers!

I love your videos, they are short but still one of the best explanations on YouTube. Most videos are over 20 min and after watchen them I feel like I didnt learn anything :D

As aside....really love the outtakes at the end. Your vids are short and excellently produced. The outtakes remind me that it is really hard work to do even short videos.

I actaully recommended this video to a friend, I think you have a new follower ;)

I'm literally using this mini as an OSL/NMM competition piece! (really it's a glazing study but I'm entering it into a competition just to keep myself accountable) Saved for future watching!

I've only used OSL once or twice to a decent effect, but this will take it to the next level!! Thank you!

I haven't even started miniature painting yet (currently looking for a good starter set for me) and I'm already excited to try this after a couple of months :')

This is so well done, I enjoyed watching! I primarily create scale spacecraft replicas, and to represent their varying scales I've started to build figurines to put next to each one. But I am very new to organic miniatures and I've been really binge watching your channel, it's been a lot of good learning.
