This Orchard Has (Almost) Everything! | MD F&H

At Falcon Ridge Farm in Westminster, Stanton Gill and Nancy MacBride specialize in growing a little bit of, well, everything! Their 105-acre orchard features a wide variety of unusual fruits not commonly seen in Maryland, such as apricots, currants, Asian pears, quince, and hearty kiwis, to name a few. Stanton gives viewers a tour of the farm’s many trees and explains unconventional growing methods successfully developed by the farm.

On a front and back garden of just 130 square meters, I grow 60 grapevines, 15 varieties of apples, 10 types of blackberries, 5 different coloured bushberries, 5 types of raspberries, 5 citrustrees, 4 pears, 4 cherries, 3 goyi berries, 3 plums, 3 haskap, 3 strawberries, 3 kiwi, 3 passionfruits, 2 Akebia, 2 figs, 1 apricot, 1 medlar, 1 hazelnut, 1 banana, 1 date palm, 1 cranberry, 1 Pawpaw 1 Mulberry, Besides these 138 different types of fruit trees, bushes and plants. Now that the garden is maturing, I have 123 kilogram fruits a year, every year increasing. In between I have lots of flowerbulbs and clematisplants. I conserved some 340 pots with mostly jam. I may not have so many fruittypes as you have, but I only have a back and front garden. In 2025 I hope to make my own wine. I have a Bed and Breakfast for hikers and bikers in the Netherlands.

Anything special you're doing to grow the orange and avocado trees in your hardiness zone?

I wish they would've explained how they're growing citrus fruits in zone 7! Also I guess the only thing they aren't growing is nut trees.
