I've always felt that telling Anakin that he was the chosen one was one of the worse decisions they Jedi made. The other is not sending someone back to liberate his mother. Ashoka leaving the order after being falsely accused of the bombing didn't help either. Those along with the general animosity towards him by some Jedi such as Mace Windu left him open to manipulation by Palpatine. In many ways the Jedi did betray him.

The story of Anakin Skywalker could be used as a prime example of why children should never be forcibly taken away from either parent and not allowed to go back, the consequences of bullying by peers and teachers in schools, and why making men feel like our mental health is unimportant and making us ignore it is much more damaging than anything else.

CinemaTherapy actually already diagnosed Anakin with Borderline Personality Disorder in one of their videos a while back, and explained why neither Kenobi nor Padme could reach him when he went all dark-side, but Luke was able to. It's actually an interesting character study, and I agree with their conclusions.

I think another trauma to consider when it comes to the impact of Anakin's mental health is his time as a slave. And the jedi were not very supportive in processing emotions, a lot of it was dismissive and invalidating. We even got to see some of this in the flashbacks in Kenobi episode 5. During his dual with Anakin, You could see that Obu-Wan was aware of Anakin's anger and his struggles with it, but the response was to shame and scold. I'm sure Kenobi didn't do this on purpose, or maliciously, but that is another cause of BPD that we see in the childhoods of people struggling with it.

Re-writing this because I was on mobile.

I'd like to take this video as an opportunity, as someone with BPD, to say that despite what people have been spreading around since the Johnny Depp trial, no, people with BPD are not abusers, are not people to flee and what else horror I've read online. You must realize that first and foremost, borderline people are people who got abused themselves in their lifes, who were backed into a corner, and had to develop unhealthy coping and defense mechanisms, but through self reflection and therapy, they can live a totally normal life like the rest of y'all.

Having BPD doesn't make you an abuser. Being an abuser makes you an abuser.

But this is an illness that can indeed, when left unchecked and undiagnosed, lead to toxic relationships and sometimes abusive behaviour, which is why I can't recommend enough to seek treatment, to seek therapy. You don't have to be alone in this. This is not something that has to define who you are as a person, and having past traumas doesn't mean you can't be loved.

Darth Vader technically is the chosen one because he did destroy palpatine in the end and did for fill the prophecy

I suffer from BPD, and I've said this about anakin for years. It's actually called 'splitting' when your brain turns on you. Black for hatred, white for pedestal.

Splitting white is when your Favorite Person makes everything in life a-ok! You're feeling *good* for once, without extra substances, and this person feeds your seratonin needs.

Splitting Black is when someone does something Wrong, be it real or imagined, that your brain takes *great* exception to.

The worst part is that when you Split, you don't realize it. Something is either utter perfection, or grotesque corruption, and all your violent or creepy reactions to all of it are *COMPLETELY* logical to you (whilst seeming batshit insane to everyone else).

When the jedi, who'd had anakin under a Sword of Damocles, broke their own tenets, they put the lie to everything he'd believed in. They'd lied, the hypocrites. After all he willingly suffered for them, and they lied... well, you can't trust anything they say. And they are all corrupt, even obi-wan! They'd LIED.

But Palpatine? The only one who never lied to him? He's willing to join, to protect your Favorite Person, to teach him? But when he betrays Palpatine, *Anakin* betrays *him* to the jedi, they showed exactly where you stood. It's no wonder he hated everything the jedi stood for, when all he saw were the lies and stagnation. His brain literally would not allow him to see anything else.

Being someone diagnosed with severe borderline personality disorder I can tell you how accurate this diagnosis seems. I'm not a Sith Lord and I'm not a murderer but my condition being severe I relate to a lot of his behaviour. Severe mood swings that make him violent or erratic. He loves to take risks, he is extremely impulsive. He fears more than anything the loss of his loved ones (Asoka, Mother and Padme mostly). He would do anything to keep them in his life... Anything. The huge (gigantic) dissociation he shows when he becomes Vader as if he wasn't him anymore. Those are all things I've experienced and live with everyday (and make the very few relations I've managed to keep suffer probably more than me). Of course these behaviors are circursentials. I do not dissociate every day but I can tell you that at my worst I was convinced I had become an evil entity and that entity had killed me. The link between the dark side and hard (hard) drugs is also brilliant. The need to escape the feeling of void inside and be free of the burden of the heavy reality that I create or imagine around me is very relatable. When you are borderline, depending on the degree of course, it is true and probably hard to relate to but, if I am living a stressful emotional situation I see things black or white. You are either with me or against me. I love you, I hate you. I admire you, you're pathetic. These behaviors are so destructive when I look back but in the moment... you better be on my side and I'm not proud of it.

I’d be interested in a psychology of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Mace Windu, even Grandmaster Yoda as well.

This isn't new afaik, Anakin is the posterchild for borderline. It's been speculated ever since the prequel films. It's one of the best depiction of the disorder on cinema. Good to have something more official tho.

BPD and PTSD can co-occur and with combination of "drugs" AKA dark side without help in any fashion he is a danger to everyone and himself. I feel bad for him

is it bad that after 2:13 i realized i may need professional help? not even trying to make a joke, i'm genuinely a bit horrified right now.

I would love to see Maul explored. He’s absolutely broken.

Have you ever heard the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Sad?

The answer isn't obvious?

ObiWan Kenobi.

Seeing how he matured, developed, changed over the years. That would be something to see from a professional point of view.

I was once having an argument with a friend and mid argument they sent a gif of the part where obiwan says "only a sith deals in absolutes"
