This is the Smartest car I've ever reviewed!

This is the all-new Smart #1!

When you think of Smart cars, chances are you remember tiny cars like the ForTwo or ForFour. However, the #1 is clearly much bigger than these, and now sits as a competitor to the likes of the Megane E-Tech and Kia Niro EV!

So let’s see how this all-new Smart stacks up. Starting with the design, it looks pretty impressive on the outside. There are full-length light bars at both the front and rear, and the back of the car is giving us serious Mercedes EQB vibes! Along the side, you’ll see a set of smart-looking 19-inch alloy wheels, as well as flush door handles to help with aerodynamics. It also comes with a two-tone paint job, which is a nice touch.

Step inside and the good looks continue! The #1 comes with a minimalist design, with nearly all controls running through the central infotainment screen. That’s a bit annoying when you come to control things while driving, but thankfully it comes with voice controls and the screen is pretty easy to use. The cabin is largely covered in soft-touch materials, and the build quality is pretty good. Unfortunately, though the digital driver's display is a bit small, if you pick the Premium trim, you’ll be treated to a heads-up display as well.

There are two trims to choose from - the entry-level Pro+ or the Premium. Both come with a single electric motor that can produce 272hp. Both cars come with a 62kWh battery pack, but while the Pro+ can run for a range of up to 260 miles, the Premium can run up to 273 miles.

The starting price of the Smart #1 is around £36,000. So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

I wish every car had sliding rear seats, so convenient if you don't need all the boot space, especially in those smaller cars.

What I really like about your reviews is that you judge cars from the perspective of their typical buyers or target audience and not by your personal standards. That's one thing many reviewers do wrong

My Renault Zoe has certainly proved itself during the three years I’ve been driving it!! A jolly good little car with a very practical boot!!

Some add-ups from a Chinese customer: 1) This car is based on the SEA platform which shared by Smart #1, #3, Geek X, and Volvo EX30, etc. So it’s more Volvo than Mercedes mechanically. Mercedes is only responsible for the visual design. 2)In fact we also call it “number 1” in China because there’s no convenient way to pronounce hashtag in Chinese 😂

I watched like at least 100 videos from this chanel and never wrote a comment, but this is the best one. You covered everything.

Appreciate the awesome editing, when u pointed indicator lights right and left, the sound came only from right and then left. Very well done !

What I am looking forward is Smart #2 which apparently is going to be a replacement for current gen Fortwo 453. Some people say Smart have discontinued the ForTwo and I highly doubt it since their whole business was built on ForTwo micro car. I really hope they do announce it and that it will have a long range and look somewhat similar to this. 🎉

I love the low poly video game graphics. Fits perfectly to the character of this car.

What you can see is all Mercedes, what you cannot see is all Geely. Such a brilliant car. I really want one!

Mat is still the best car reviewer out there, but i do wish we got some more consistently scheduled reviews of cars. Would love his take on the mx-5, or is Mazda upset at you guys? Or any ICE cars in general, cheaper cars, hybrids maybe. Would love a “best convertible” review. “Best cheap city car” would be great too. Don’t get me wrong, love the drag races, just miss the oldschool reviews a bit.

I loved the review as usual, one thing I'd love to see is the speed in km popping on the screen, i know MP/H multiplied by 1.6 gives the KM/H, but would be nice to see it rather than having to calculate.

Yet again mat a very good review. Very impressive with the capability also the capacity for the real world range of the car in 232+ miles from a full charge. It will be a great car to start of with to be able to get used to a full electric car.

Hate cars that make you control climate through touch screens. It’s a deal breaker.

I had a look at one a couple months ago. Its quite spacious for the size and looks a lot more upmarket than the last one

I like some of the styling details of the Smart #1 over the Volvo EX30, yet I also like the ZEEKR X which in my opinion is a better looking and styled than the Volvo.
All three cars sharing the same battery and motor options.
