Thousands of residents in a village east of Rustenburg in South Africa’s North West Province say they are living in fear of contracting cholera and other deadly diseases because they do not trust the water provided by a local mine.

The mine supplies borehole water to 12 villages with residents of Maditlokwa noticing color changes, a chalk-like substance, and little black stones coming directly from their taps.

This has raised concerns about possible chromium pollution.
