This week on #TheBGshow, Brandon addresses the hot topic of Transracial identity. The conversation is back in the spotlight after British influencer Oli London made news with their transition to identifying as “Korean”. For many people, this brought back memories and comparisons to Rachel Dolezal, a white woman in America who pretended to be Black but was later exposed. Hear what people have to say about Transracial identity. What are your thoughts? Drop them below!

Everyone saying you can't be trans-racial but they're saying that you can be transgender. It makes zero sense. I hope everyone realizes that.

How can a trans person say that there can't be transracial people??? If there are transexual people, then anyone should be able to change to what ever they want no? It's a pure contradiction for a trans sexual person to say that someone cannot be transracial because they don't know what it's like to be the other race, and they don't go through what the other race goes through, when they too don't know what it's like to be the opposite sex. This is the contradiction with "identity" if you can change one way, you should be able to change or identify in any way you feel, no?

I think transracial is another social construct that is a further attempt to label people and put them into a specific category. As a Jamaican Canadian I identify as black but I am also mixed with South Asian through my grandparents. So what about those who are genetically biracial? Multiracial? It is hard to identify with just one race when you are many races. I like that the general consensus in your video is that we are all human. That's all we know for sure. I would like to see you interview some biracial and multiracial people and see what their opinion is on the concept of being transracial.

Camera Man Chris is correct. Race was a scientific classification designed to categorize people. Essentially the classifications were used to say other “races” were better than others. Identify as black but at the end of the day people choose to put me a box and say what my black experience should be.

But no the idea of transitioning to a different race is absurd. You’ll never have the experience of the race you’re “transitioning” to.

Race is objectively less set in stone than gender. If we as a society are supposed to accept people’s chosen identities, a lot of people owe Rachel dolezal an apology

Trans racial makes more sense than trans gender. There are also financial incentives.

as a european i don't really understand the whole concept of "being white" as a way to differentiate people by culture. there is a wide range of skin colours and many times they are linked with some culture. being white on it's own doesn't really mean anything on it's own. it's like that italian girl said. im greek. that's my ethnicity. We don't identify by race

I’m white and you are black. You seem like a good guy and funny. Can’t we just take people at who they are as a person?

I find it interesting that the trans-gender basically said trans-racials have identity issues and that trans- racial is over the top. Is trans- gender not over the top too ? Literally trying to change your enitre biology and trying to identity as something you're biological not. Seems to me that these are two in the same. The trini's where right! You need to look within yourself, love yourself and be happy with yourself 💙

The idea of cultural appropriation is a hate based idea. Cultures love to share their culture, if you stop doing that then cultures can die. Bullies use hate to force something on another. Sharing is caring. If people choose one culture over another, there might be something in that culture that's appealing over other things. Truth and love are the same thing, people are attracted to both of those things.

This is a sure case of you want all of our rhythm but none of our blues.... Can you please tell these people to take a long drive down the 401 towards the Gardener get off drive straight to the Scotiabank arena and have several seats. You don't get to decide your race is something that God has Grace everyone with. And along with your race comes your experience not just the color of your skin. This is very disrespectful to the generations of people of color but for me I'm speaking as a Black person who have been prosecuted, persecuted, dehumanized simply based on the race is very dismissive of them to do so. Who everything that they are trans racial should get any boat and sell away far far away.

My friend called me a Koreaboo (or whtv it is) just because she thought I was obsessed with all things Korean. I'm not obsessed with all things Korean. I just think that the culture is fascinating! It's a very interesting culture, a culture I would like to get to learn more about and eventually learn the language. I had heard of K-drama and Kpop (mostly from my friend) and decided to give it a try and it's quite interesting. It seems like nowadays I can't find a culture fascinating and want to learn more about it without being called a Koreaboo. And it hurt me to hear that from my friend. And I agree with the lady in the video (skip to 2:00) because if you look, rap originated from West Africa. And if you listen to Kpop and watch the MVs, you can see that the outfits get more and more revealing and looking more southern (Now listen bc I have a feeling someone is gonna start and argue: I'm NOT against Kpop artists clothing styling become more southern. It makes the group/band look more unique to me). I don't think being "trans-racial" is bad as long as your respecting the culture and not being trans-racial to be cute or more attractive (or like a twitch e-girl streamer). As long as your NOT going to the extreme and copying the stereotypes or making it weird then think you can be trans-racial if you want, I don't care.

If we can ignore biological sex and accept a persons gender identity, we can also ignore biological race and accept their racial identity. To accept one and not the other is very hypocritical.
