2UZ-FE was the best. Cast iron block. Have it in my 2006 4runner. 200k miles and runs like its new.

100% correct. As a Toyota MDT Toyota/Lexus makes the best V8's period

I used to own a Toyota Epic boat. Yes Toyota made a boat for several years and it was great. Engine would run at 5000 rpms for years and never had a problem, except the petcock drains were in terrible locations to winterize.

I have an '02 Ls 430 and just had the timing belt changed. It still had the original belt (at 161k miles) and the mechanic said it looked damn near new!

The 1UZ family is an excellent donor, with its matching tranny, etc into a Russian GAZ Volga; toss a matching rear end under it and you're good to go. I believe the last Volgas from the 2000s are a bolt on source of balljoint control arms and matching disc brakes...5 x 114.3mm/4.5" bolt pattern wheels F and R

I love the noise it makes. Seen a carbureted one that sounded like a monster

Toyota's line of V8s started in the early 1970s after they bought the rites to the chrysler hemi., and produced a 3.4 litre and later a 3.8 litre push rod hemi copy, almost exact copy of the chrysler motor, infact early toyota 2 litre pushrod motors also used a head that looks like it came from Chrysler hemi. The V8 versions came in early Crowns in late 1960/70s . They were even named " toy hemis".

Don't forget about the forged bottom end that's balanced perfectly and the cross ram design intake from factory

Fantastic. More reliable than the starter motor you had to pull the intake manifold off to change.

I wish all timing systems were gear driven like this.

I had a few of these ls400 and sc400 Lexus monsters and their is one unreliable thing about it, the damm water pump, but besides that I was pretty amazed at the F1 screaming it makes with a simple intake swap, reminds me of the LFA of the 90s sound wise only!

No better than the Nissan VK's at least they do not use a Timing Belt.

I like that you could find this. In an es ls and sc400 also in the same exact cars in Japan that got sold as Toyotas

Ford did the same thing in 96 with the cobras. All aluminum dual overhead cam 32 valves

An old school, cam in block, iron, 2 valves per cylinder. Is the way to go, simple, easy to fix, you can rebuild it in your driveway for a couple hundred bucks and drive it for another 200k miles and if you pick the right parts and keep the cubic inches on the small side around 300 or below get up in the 25mpg or more. Your just not getting much more mpg for all that complexity and expensive cost to repair if you can get parts at all for that obscure motor.
