Ritual Spells Guide for Dungeons and Dragons 5e

Most rituals aren’t directly useful in combat, but they can have a big impact on how player characters navigate the world. Instead of using up your spell slots, you just have to have the time to perform the ritual! This makes rituals an important part of strategic play. Rituals can be used to investigate areas, gather information, or prepare for an adventure.

My favorite ritual that I do every game is yell angrily at my D20. It's more of a tradition than a ritual I guess.

One my my favorite character that I've played was a human paladin Warlock that grabbed ritual caster at 1st level so he was so much fun because I would have several things follow him at all time, his owl familiar, an unseen servant in a robe and mask, carrying a torch, to look like another person and a floating disk with his backpack and other gear plus he eventually got find steed and had a giant goat. So it was a human in plate armour, riding an armored goat with an owl resting between its horns being followed by a floating backpack and a cloaked figure.

My knowledge domain cleric set up a stall in a city and used augury as a ritual to read peoples fortunes for some gold.

No talking about Find Familiar?
It one of the strongest 1st level spells in the game.

This is an awesome addition to the game. Detect Magic especially. Such a needed spell and yet such a giant waste of a spell slot. Just loving on ritual spells.

You're doing videos on feats, and I know that you'll eventually get to the Ritual Caster feat, but I figured I'd jump the gun and get my thoughts out. This is a great feat for a failed wizard who is embarking on a different career path. One of my favorite character ideas is a Rogue who started out as a wizard's assistant, copying out spells - for this I took Comprehend Languages and Unseen Servant, allowing him to read spells he's unfamiliar with (to avoid copying errors) and double his production as he orders the Unseen Servant to duplicate his pen-strokes.

He's a rogue because he had to walk around quietly so as not to startle the wizard during an experiment and because the wizard constantly lost his keys and didn't prepare the Knock spell.

Always nice listening to Dungeon Dudes. Canada has contributed to the world with Wayne Gretzky, The Hart family and the Dungeon Dudes.

Thanks guys. The Player's Handbook was a little obscure, for me, as to how it went about discussing exactly how Ritual rules work. You guys explained it perfectly and dispelled (pun intended) all confusion I had on it. Definitely going to look into the rest of your videos. :D

Arcane domain cleric with ritual casting feat (wizard) became really respected in our party for what he brought to the table.

Another great episode and with that I'm also coming in with another tip: you guys do explain spells that you mention in videos like these, but one thing that would improve them by just a tiny notch would be to put a spell card on the screen (or even just a passage from the PDF cut out, so we can read it as well). I wouldn't want the card take up the whole screen, so I would just stick it either to the top left or top right.

i used Bloom to become a rich and famous Wine producer by buying some land and keeping the seeds of all the fruit i ate on the journey then i sacrificed my spell focus to make the bloom spell permanent on my plot of land giving me the best produce year round and then converting it into wine and Brandy that i sold to the crown do to its high quality. i got rich pretty quick after that

You guys left out a level 1 ritual spell that has some of the most varied and potent uses: Find Familiar.
A clever player can find good uses for a familiar in nearly any type of play. I'd choose that as a feat over just about any other, unless my class gave it to me for free.

I had a Rune Knight Fighter take ritual casting. She had her bag of runes, instead of a book, that she used to cast her rituals. While it certainly wasn’t an optimal build, fighters get enough feats that I was able to fit it in without to much trouble and it added a lot of flavor and fun.

I am a long time DM/GM and have decided to go back to the core books and recap what I ... don't know! YouTube is my go-to. I really like your interaction and warmth without being silly. I look for INFORMATIONAL vids that TEACH with good pace, clear speaking, that get to the point - You nailed it all. There are SO many POTENTIALLY good videos on YT that suffer from poor audio and lighting. YOUR production quality also makes a big difference. Your subject was what I was looking for and your teaching was spot on. I subscribed. Thanks!

I didn't realize that this could not be used by all classes. I wanted to get the ritual feat for my Monk to have Ceremony, Detect Magic, and Identify.

Walking around as a travelling priest makes it easier when you can open your "bible" and cast ceremony. As well as espionage makes it easier with the other two.

The masking ritual and communicating in battle are very good points I totally over looked. Also I'll need to show this to certain people who forget about hauling heir rituals!

And awesome shirts

Ah... ritual casting. One of the reason why wizard is very popular. Ritual casting without even having to prepare it. This basically mean that you have more spell in your hand that you can effectively use than any other class. The great utility class lol.

I am kinda glad they added the ritual option, offers a partial solution for low lever spellcasters and their lack of slots per day :P Good stuff, Dudes!
