“I am... inevitable”

“Oh really? Do you in fact have an associate’s degree from VermTech?”

Hammy: *slows down time*

Quicksilver: Write that down, write that down!

I can’t express enough how good of a decision it was to have the camera almost always from the animals perspective, always facing up at humans. As a kid and even today it really makes you feel like one of them, experiencing the movie from their perspective

It's rather amazing how Over The Hedge uses casual threat of murder as both comedy and actual stake at the current problem.

I feel like “You maniac!” is slowly becoming the new “That was his mistake!”

Fun Fact: Over the Hedge has been referenced in science. An aurora-like natural phenomenon was named STEVE in reference to the scene where the animals discover the hedge. STEVE is an acronym for Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement and radiates a purple and green light. So, without Over the Hedge, we wouldn't have an aurora named Steve. Thanks, Dreamworks!

One of the many reasons I liked this as a child was how it portrayed humans. It being filmed from the viewpoint of the animals reminded me how I felt when adults were talking over me. It weirdly made me feel heard by mocking their self-importance. (I know kids were made fun of too, but the villains are adults).

I'm quite surprised you didn't mention how scary Vincent is. RJ was having post-traumatic nightmares of Vincent hunting him down and the voice actor really helped make him sound quite intimidating. On top of all that, he's a bear and who isn't afraid of bears right?

Everyone knows that the best thing about this movie is Hammy drinking the Energy drink and going quicksilver mode before quicksilver did it

Fun Fact: The bear is actually Nick Nolte, they didn't even animate him.

i love how consistent this movie is. nearly everything is brought back up later. the geneva convention breaking lawn protection thing, verns tail tingles, the dog who _really_ wants to play with someone, etc. it's a small little touch that i personally really like and wished other movies did that

I think the funniest thing for me about the Hammy slowdown scene is that Hammy is shown to be hyperactive through the whole film and in this one instance he just calms down while everything is slown down.

Big Joel’s analysis of Over the Hedge: “It’s a trash film that’s also a deep, metaphoric film about the division of class and races.”
Schaffrillas’s analysis of Over the Hedge: *”Haha, animal exterminator man in children’s movie does the funny.”*

Shrek villains: A power hungry noble, an evil fairy and a genie-like figure that twists wishes

Kung Fu Panda villains: A spurned kung fu master, a heavily armed usurper prince, an undead warrior that collects souls

Over the Hedge villains: A loan shark bear, a pest terminator and a Karen

The teenage possum is voiced by Avril Lavigne, and it's honestly one of the best voice performances by a pop music celebrity I've ever seen

You know how little kids pick one movie and rewatch it a million times?

This one was mine

Also the gross-out humor is done well. Everything exaggerated to insane levels and it's never the focus of the scene if it would otherwise last too long.

The Verminator looks like a 50 year old version of vector from despicable me

What he probably said: “A neurotic turtle”
What I heard: “An erotic turtle”

This is the most nostalgic animated movie to me. The artsyle, the Ben folds music, the suburbs, the focus on unhealthy snacks, so early 2000s.

FINALLY someone talks about the "Liar revealed" troupe, my absolutely most hated conflict trope
it's so unrealistically over-dramatic, like, every single one of these blow-outs I've seen in movies throughout my whole life could've been prevented if the offended party demanded their rightfully deserved explanation rather than storm away

heck, _I was in this situation in real life_ and it didn't play out like that
