Welcome to this video where we look at the Nitrogen family of fertilizers. When we talk about Nitrogen fertilizers, we are alluding to products such as urea, ammonium nitrate & LAN/CAN, and ammonium sulphate, which are all derived from ammonia.
In this video, we highlight the main aspects that are key to pricing:
• Global supply-demand balance
• Overview of production process and raw materials – a key driver of production cost
• The countries or regions where these products are produced and trade flows
• Price trends/cyclicality
Ammonia is the intermediate for nitrogen fertilizers; it is made from the synthesis of nitrogen and hydrogen. Over 180 million tons of urea are consumed annually, of which South Africa consumes around 0.5% and the whole SADC region less than 1%.
