Appreciate this review. I got a Leica MP and I have desired to move to digital but always invested that energy back into film. But after watching this I'm realising I might make the move!

3:55 That is a myth. Taking viewing distance to print size relation into consideration and the print resolution needed at larger viewing distances for larger prints, nobody needs 60MP for making a print. Nobody is ever going to see that you printed from a 60MP file for whatever typical print size you choose. And especially these smaller prints (anything under 40 inches on the long end) will never show any difference to much smaller file pixel dimensions. I've printed large for ~20 years now, the notion that 60MP renders better prints is a myth.

Meyerowitz himself went on the record and stated that even compared to his 8x10 large format work, the older 47MP Leica models offered more resolution than he could ever want for whatever print size. I've printed 30x40 inches from a 12MP file and nobody would be able to tell. I regularly print 1 meter on the long edge from 15MP and 20MP Foveon files and the output looks breathtaking on paper even with a 7x magnification glass held to a detail on the print.

Anyone thinking that printing from 60MP renders a noticeable difference is lying to themselves. It makes no noticeable difference.

60MP is for cropping, to have the option to shoot now and decide later what orientation you want to use (landscape or portrait) by cropping into the frame in portrait/landscape or simply by cropping in. It's the equivalent of "open gate" shooting for video. And no, cropping is not a crutch. It's a tool and it's a very legit reason to go for a high resolution camera system. It allows you to have freedom of aspect ratio and crop for situations where shooting is expensive or for moments only happening once.

"I have owned Leica cameras for a very long time, since 2016" LOL ! You ARE young, aren't you !
All joking aside, have you experienced freezing/lock ups with your M11 ?

I have never done any real cropping but you know with 60MP on a rangefinder when your shot is not level it's nice to have (and then, that is when I tend to crop lol). The M11 files are about as good as anything out there. There's a small but noticeable difference, IME. I have two frustrations with Leica. Firstly, the freezing really is a thing and the firmware helps but has never 100% solved it. Secondly, it feels like Leica is splitting their attention with the SL system and some lenses haven't been updated in a long time. There needs to be a new 50 and 35 cron IMO, that can make some improvements without the need to go full on APO level price. I do, ultimately, prefer to use 6 bit coded lenses and it's why I'm not really willing to acquire a huge number of Zeiss/Voigtlander lenses. 35 APO price though 😬 Anyway I agree, the M11 is worth it for some definition of worth it.

If the price wasn’t a factor in you liking the camera or your experiences with it then you wouldn’t have mentioned it as the very first thing 🙄
