Can someone help me understand the KVM system here? I have a mouse and keyboard plugged into monitor, and a USB Type-B to USB Type-A going from the monitor into my gaming PC. The gaming PC is connected to the monitor via HDMI-HDMI. They work as expected [is the USB-B to USB-A providing a power supply or something here, as they work once I connect the monitor to my gaming PC?]. I then have a work laptop which I want to be able to switch to for the keyboard and mouse. My laptop connects to the monitor via DP-DP. I assume that to be able to use KVM, I need to also connect my laptop to the monitor by using a USB Type-C cable going into the monitors USB Type-C port from my laptop. My laptop however only has USB Type-A connections - if I use a USB Type-A to USB Type-C connection from my laptop to my monitor, the keyboard and mouse flash when I press the KVM button as if they are going to work, but then power off and don't work. Is USB Type-A to USB Type-C not viable for using the KVM switch capabilities, even though when I plug it in it pops up on screen telling me to use KVM switch button?

I am having issues with the USB-C connection.

1. Sound is still coming out of the macbook pro (even with lid closed) and not from the monitor as it should
2. When the mac goes to sleep, it reverts back to the laptop's resolution. Is there a way to retain the resolution when we wake up the mac?

Hi, i cant seem to make thb kvm work
This is my entire setup:

My PC is connected via Display Port to the monitor for Display

My laptop is connected via HDMI-1 to the monitor for Display

I have a normal type C cable since my laptop has a type C port. Do I have to connect my Type C from laptop to the type C of the monitor? what does this carry or mean

Questions:
1. What do I need to do to get this working?
2. Do I need to have a corresponding connector from the PC to the monitor to carry the keyboard/mouse signal?
3. I'm under the impression that I need to connect my Keyboard and Mouse to the two USB 3.0 ports in the back of the monitor. Is this correct?
4. What is that port in the left side of the 2 usb 3.0 ports? Is that something that I have to use?
5. This is my first time setting up a KVM and I don;t know how it works. It is my understanding that it allows someone to use the same keyboard and mouse by just 1-2 clicks to use two devices, , and also switch Display view?
