In this video you join me discussing the OG M2 and if it really is good enough to take on the legend that is the BMW 1M?

I really enjoyed driving that, I loved the manual box and with a Coolerworx shifter but the short variant it would be truly epic. It had a good amount of pace for a stock car too. Really liked it

i have an og m2 dct in long beach blue and with around 25k in mods and its a total blast.
i wanted it to be a nice clubport/track car i could also take to the mountains and blast some porsche 911´s on the autobahn and let me say i couldnt be more happy with the outcome.
currently running big turbo 625hp and fbo. eventuri intake, m performance exhaust and hjs 200 cell downpipe and it a complete transformation.
the suspension is a kw v3 with millway adapters and i have done pretty big aero, breaks and seats.

the car makes so much more fun than the m4 comp idrove a while and handle so much better than a fully built e92 m3 i ran on the track.

on the comparisson to the m240i i can only agree, all he time i hear a m240i is the same or that they are better even for mods... well sry but its not the case:
1. driving feel, steering is a hole oter leaque because of the LSD, DCT and the axle hich are straight from the m4 and are bolted directly to the chassi.
2. power: i can run 600hp on the track without a worry and there are many 750 to 800hp builts for the n55 m2 now. i dont see why i should opt for an m240i with all the downsides to run the same power in the end (no lsd, smaller track width, no dry sump oil pump, auto instead of dct, steering feel, worse axles) and btw anything in the realm above 650hp make any of these cars undrivable on full throttle anyways. for the m2 500 to 600hp is the sweet spot imo and for the m240i just do a stage 2 or your open diff cant handle it.

Had a 1M for two years, was great fun on proper roads but was hard work in slow moving traffic. 1st gear for example was very difficult to come off the clutch without quite an aggressive thud sensation. Engine was powerful but old school delivery, gave a second lease of life at around 3000rpm as the second turbo got involved.

As long as its sub 60k miles, BMW still warranty them for ~£500/year as long as its come through BMW approved used and you service with them, which is pretty cheap btw because its not an 'actual M car'. M2 is a lot more to service through BMW despite still having an 'n' designated engine.

Also found it very hard to sell the 1M at a decent price - there are usually quite a lot on the market at once. The very high price, low mileage ones sit for a very long time.

Bought mine for £47k in 2016 and sold for £38k in 2018. Bought with 10k on clock, sold with around 22k. Sold via Collecting Cars when it was quite a new entity, was a very good experience but was a very low volume website at that point. No idea what its like now its much bigger.

Considering an M2 as something much cheaper you don't really need to worry about in the same way, its either that or a Yaris Gr as a fun car for me . M car prices are going to get pounded by the UK cost of living crisis so would imagine we see them selling in the teens in the not too distant future.

I've always thought the 1M is like a modern E30 M3 and the M2 is like a modern E46 M3 to be honest.

With the budget for an M2C, Id much rather buy an OG M2 and a set of G8X comp seats and a nice set of wheels/tires & springs.

As much as I love the OG M2, I’m not sure these days that you’d cross shop an OG and a 1M given the disparity in values.

The 1M is the OG turbocharged, small M car. The fact that it was a skunkworks special makes it that bit cooler. BMW manuals do seem to vary a lot; the one in our my wife’s old 125i was pretty good after removing the CDV, changing the white shifter bush and changing the gearbox oil. It was no S2000 gearshift but was pretty good.

I prefer the OG to the Comp; I hate the Comp wheels, don’t like the udder rear box or the noise it makes. It does have nicer seats though and a much better selection of colours.

What is funny is that most people tend to think that the HK audio is the top of the line audio system. I was one of them, until I read about the individual sound option. I can tell you, the individual / enhanced premium is really crisp and well balanced. The DSP surround option is also much better than the Logic7 one.

The seats in the M2 really let it down on the non competition, such bog standard seats, no different than the 2 series 😢

Genuinely think the 1M is a fugly, cheap interior, parts bin special, which only commands such a high used price simply because it's rare.
The OG M2 is a much better car in every way, and the M2C is still cheaper than a used 1M and is a MUCH better car in every way.

1M owner here----i drove a few different F87 M2s on the street and track. My favourite M2 is the N55 OG M2. The M2s are SO detached and distant compared to the 1M. the 1M is a very vivid, urgent driving machine. The M2 is a good driving machine but not nearly as exciting or engaging in any way. So NO the M2 is not a substitute for a what is!?
