A personal trainer advised me to find excercise in your normal tasks - see a flight of stairs? Use that. Have something to lift? Use it to target certain muscles etc.

"Exercise snacks" are great! I have a non-public set of stairs, a place to do dead hangs, etc. to break up my sitting time.

What worked great for me was to gradually drink less and less sugary drinks. Cutting them more and more with water when possible. Buying drinks with less and less sugars in it (like flavored tea or w/e).
In the end I no longer drink them weekly (just occasionally)

Dr Brad, is LDL cholesterol on its own really a good indication? I've been on a healthy diet, exercising, and sleeping well my whole life, and I'm at 101. My doctor said that because my HDL (66) and triglycerides are optimal (71), I have no reason to worry about LDL. According to him, the ratio of triglycerides and HDL is a better predictor of heart conditions. Do you agree?

Hi Dr. Stanfield, I believe the study you mentioned states 1.62g/kg of total body weight, not lean body weight. Although they discuss the impact of this protein intake on FFM/lean body weight, I couldn't find where they specify the formula using lean body mass. There's another video on the Renaissance Periodization channel discussing this study, where they mention 1.6g/kg of total body weight. It's titled "Naturals Don't Need That Much Protein (New Recommendations).

I love how everything you speak about is backed by different studies, and how you mention their validity. I appreciate that, and you.

Saturated fat is healthy. The problem is eating high carb AND high saturated fat.

How to deal with fermented foods? Because they are often salty, I have read that fermented foods like sauerkraut or pickles can reduce the damage that sodium does.

One thing that should be mentioned is measuring some key health indicators. You can’t control what you don’t measure.

Body weight and fat percentage are well known, but it really helps to buy a smart scale to track changes over time.

Heart rate (HR): max HR to determine exercise zones, threshold between aerobic and anaerobic and resting HR, but also HR variability during sleep are great measurements and you can learn a lot from them! So invest some money in a watch that can do 24/7 HR monitoring. It can also measure sleep quality based on distinguishing REM sleep, deep sleep, light sleep and awake times.

I never measure blood pressure or cholesterol, but it would be great! Also blood samples contain a ton of information about your health, but we usually only have them taken when something is wrong and with very low frequency.

I would love to track some indicators to tell me about the level of artery calcification, brain health, DNA damage, epigenetic damage or even gut and mouth microbiome. But it’s not really mainstream stuff. All tips are welcome!

Exercise Snacks are great. I work from home and in my office I have a pull-up bar but also for dead hang, parallel bars (makes me sound like a gymnast) for dips and knee raises plus a kettlebell. And of course the floor for press-ups, planks, etc... If I'm on a Zoom call (with the video off) I'll do a little circuit of exercises and/or stretches. Obviously this doesn't work for everyone but just throwing out some suggestions!

How can I consume 129g of protein/day?

So if the only negative effect of salt is higher blood pressure, does that mean as long as my blood pressure is low-normal even with high salt intake I am free to eat a high-salt diet without negative effects?

You are well aware that apoB is a much better marker ( and also it's a cause) for heart disease. I use it in my journey. My baseline value was pretty high despite a good diet, so I decided to add rosuvastatin and ezetimibe in minimal doses to help with that. I've read countless studies where they compared statins to placebo and high dose statins to low dose statins with ezetimibe . Combo in low doses turned out to be as good as a high dose of statins with far less side effects. So that's where I am going now. I'll check again in a month or so to see where I am at.

I had problems with fibre but then introduced it in small doses and gradually increased it - now I barely ever have any crohn's flare ups and my metabolic age has dropped

It's good that you tell your patients about how they will lose some muscle, so that they can do something about it.
The doctors I went to didn't tell me that the medication they made me take blocks your serotonin and dopamine. Therefore, I gained over 80 pounds in a few months, diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, rotting teeth, lactation leading to my spine deteriorating (which they didn't tell me was happening, ) ingrown toenails, a abscess coming back every few months, loss of my sex drive, eczema, my skin is crap, my hair got matted, I didn't want to be around people, I got ocd, restless leg syndrome, I started having irrational fears, and..oh, I actually became schizophrenic.. Even more happened.
I just wish that they either would have given me a heads up, or given me more options than medication, psych ward, or electric shocks.
You must be a good person.
