Liberal Philadelphia DA sues Elon Musk over $1 million a day voter giveaway

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced a lawsuit Monday against billionaire Elon Musk over his political action committee’s supposed “illegal lottery.”
Musk’s America PAC announced it would award $1 million daily to one random signer of its petition which asks for “support for the First and Second Amendments.” Residents of certain swing states can be paid to sign the petition and for referring others to sign.
The PAC has already awarded $9 million to voters from Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada and Arizona. The DA’s office, in a Monday press release, described the sweepstakes as an “illegal lottery” and vowed to prosecute Musk for potentially interfering with the election.
“The Philadelphia District Attorney is charged with protecting the public from public nuisances and unfair trade practices, including illegal lotteries,” Krasner's office wrote. “The DA is also charged with protecting the public from interference with the integrity of elections.”
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner received substantial support from billionaire Democratic donor George Soros in the past. He pumped nearly $1.7 million into Krasner’s first run for district attorney, according to campaign finance reports.
Philadelphia Gov. Josh Shapiro also addressed the $1 million lottery, calling it “deeply concerning” in an appearance on NBC's “Meet The Press.”
“I think it's something that law enforcement could take a look at,” he said of Musk’s lottery. “I'm not the attorney general anymore of Pennsylvania. I'm the governor, but it does raise some serious questions.”
Musk has openly criticized Soros, saying on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2023 the billionaire “hates humanity.”
“[Soros is] doing things that erode the fabric of civilization,” Musk said. “Getting DAs elected that refuse to prosecute crime, that’s part of the problem in San Francisco and LA.”
“Soros realized that you don’t actually need to change the laws, you just need to change how they’re enforced,” Musk added. “If no one chooses to enforce the laws, or the laws are differentially enforced, it’s like changing the laws.”
The America PAC’s cash offer also drew the attention of adult card game Cards Against Humanity this month. The game, which launched its own PAC to encourage Democrats to vote, issued a mass referral to fans to exploit Musk’s petition signing bonus .
“The more people who do this, the more Musk money we’ll get to un-f*** America,” it wrote. “If he doesn’t pay up, we’ll sue him again.”
