People often mix these two up…I have in the past! Although they may look similar, they are in actual fact, very different.

•𝘿𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙝 𝙟𝙪𝙢𝙥 involves a larger amplitude of centre of mass displacement during ground contact than the drop jump. The depth jump allows for greater jump height to be achieved but at the expense of ground contact time —> not suitable for developing fast stretch shortening cycle (SSC) ability (Moore et Al, 2017). Although is suitable for promoting other physiological adaptations👍🏼

• 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙧𝙤𝙥 𝙟𝙪𝙢𝙥 is more effective at targeting the SSC to help promote greater leg stiffness which we know can greatly improve running economy🏃🏽‍♀️📈

• It is essential that the athlete has the required levels of strength before incorporating these into their program to reduce the risk of injury and optimise the outcomes!

How these exercises are performed is important. Placing an emphasis on external cues can greatly help execute these movements to maximise the benefits. More on this later this week☘️
