Japanese shoegaze is absolutely wonderful, and to no surprise. The landscape/culture of Japan is beautiful and offers so much inspiration, both physically and spiritually, to native shoegaze creators. Their work is driven by this inspiration and offers such an ethereal listening experience to their audience along with a sense of what it feels like to live in Japan. Someday I hope to go there and experience it first-hand.

This is how stupid I am. Since "shoegaze" pops up next to japanese indie pop lists all the time, I thought it was a japanese genre, so I looked up the hiragana and threw it into Google Translate, getting the phrase "Long Time", which I thought was beautiful, since I do listen to this music for a long time.

It's dream pop, characterized by its ethereal-sounding mixture of obscured vocals, guitar distortion and effects, feedback, and overwhelming volume.
I do plan on listening to do this for a long time. I went from acapella to tv themes to movie soundtracks to video game soundtracks to lofi to shoegaze in five easy moves and it just makes me more productive.

Kinoko Teikoku is my favorite Japanese band. Sadly, they have pretty much abandoned their old shoegaze sound.
