Try keeping him under cover from 8am to 6pm and turning him out at night. The fly rug will trap some heat and might be too much for him.

My horse is a paint and has pink skin, and I'm in Queensland, Australia, he wears a cotton/mesh rug and a full fly mask in summer everyday, so maybe that could be an idea Esmy, good luck darl.

Poor Mickey, hope he gets to feeling better soon🥺💗 one thing, and this isn’t my place to say so but I just thought I’d put it out here is that for some horses, having a really shaggy coat into summer could be a sign of Cushings Disease, but then again of course I’m not at all saying Mickey has it, and I don’t want to sound like an internet trainer or anything who thinks they know everything, just that’s the case with some horses☺️
