What is The Gambia?

I have made it safely to Africa's smallest country on the mainland! It's called THE GAMBIA -- have you ever heard of it before?

This nation is completely surrounded by Senegal and the Atlantic Ocean on all sides, and it's appropriately nicknamed "The Smiling Coast of Africa." Seriously, people smile at you from every angle here!

We've spent the past 2.5 days here and it's been a very interesting experience to say the least. I love the people and the nature -- they are both world class. But something doesn't feel right to me about the society, which I explain in this video.

This West Africa road trip is getting crazier and crazier by the day! Follow along on IG Stories for live updates in real time!

I love Drew but I was so disappointed with this episode, I've been in Gambia twice and it is SO much more than what he decided to show/what he actually saw.. Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮

I live in America but my family is from Gambia and Senegal and there is so much more than what was in this video, it’s beautiful country and if your from America it’s hard to understand the culture and atmosphere. I’ve been there several of times and the sex tourism is something that needs work but depending on the area you won’t see it. It’s a very small country so don’t expect everything to super clean and not crowded. it’s a country that just came out of dictatorship, and the president now is not doing much to help our country. I was excited that you were going to share about my country and how beautiful it is and the people, but now watching I will say I am disappointed, I feel no one really got to see how Gambia really is, with it’s rich culture and amazing people.

Peace is always the most important thing a country can have. Amazing how most of the countries you have shown are so often misconceived!

So are you saying my 55 year old aunt and her friends went to Gambia not just to enjoy its scenic beaches?

I am British and I have been to the Gambia few times. My perception of the country is completely different from Drew's. My friends and I have had amazing times on both of our trips and we are all females from different nations . Two years ago, 10 of us visited and we are all looking forward to going back next year.
The people are so welcoming and friendly which was very surprising to us .
The only negative thing I'll say is, their is a clear difference between the poor and the rich. We came across extreme poverty in some areas and we were also invited to American like MANSIONS owned by multi millionaires dressed with private swimming pools, huge gardens, butler's, maids etc.
This level of difference did not sit very well with us and we hope the rich will give a helping hand to the poor to make things easier on them.
Oh is extremely important to mention that unlike some countries we've visited in Europe and other parts of the world, we felt incredibly safe walking around at night as a group of tourist girls.
We genuinely had fun. I believe Drew only visited the not so great parts of the country.
We also visited the neighboring country Senegal and had an even better time there !

I visited Gambia last year and I can´t say anything bad about it. It´s quite a different culture and for me it took a while to get used to it. But everyone was so welcoming and friendly there, I made new friends and will definitely be back one day

I mean Gambia is a struggling country but people do make their living in some way or form. The most important blessing we have in there is peace.

It does not matter if it is your favourite. The country is a peaceful country, I think that's what every country is looking to be.

I feel like Drew talked more about the bad things than the good thing about my country. Gambia is such an amazing place.

I’m glad my country is now getting more attention but it should’ve been represented better

I don’t even know how it made me feel watching this video as a Gambian but it was definitely far from good. I truly wish you would’ve spent a bit more time in my beautiful country and showed the world more of it’s beauties.

i lived in the Gambia-and i think summarizing the Gambia in a 5mins video is totally unfair.sex tourism is not unique to the Gambia.
