It breaks my heart when Anne says "I've always wanted to go to the theatre" and then Phillip's parents ruin it.

Trust me how they made the racism in this movie was extremely extremely watered down back in those days it was much worse and way more violent

It's takes courage to stand up to your own parents. But those parents deserved to be lectured.

For people who says that this was inaccurate of how racism is suppose to act. We all know it was way way way WAY worse than this. It’s a good movie and it still has the meaning part of it, but if they actually accurately follow history, it wouldn’t be a musical like it was originally planned. It was already heartbreaking to see the drunk group of men attacking the performers because they’re “freaks” to them. I don’t think they want to entirely focus on the violence and put that as a musical.

Second, aside from claiming on racism, it’s also about two lovers being part of different class. Phillip is part of the upper class, and Anne is part of the lower class. Those people are not suppose to be seen as they’ll be the talk of their communities. Phillip will get kicked out of his class if he was seen with any people from the lower class. As he sang in “The Other Side” telling Barnum “no thanks, I don’t want to be involve in your circus performances” or near the lower class level as he’ll be the talk of the town if he does.

So not only people dislike her because she’s half black, but she’s part of the “freaks” of Barnum’s Circus, and she’s a lower class person who performs with others with no title to her name.

In general this is an original idea that had for a long time, they just didn’t have the permission yet to give it a go.

I would of hated to live in an age where skin colour like Zendayas wasn't considered beautiful, she is extraordinarily beautiful!

If this wasn’t a family film he would’ve called her the n-word

sadly thats how it was back in those times. SO glad we live in a different time where its not ok to treat other races like 'the help'

They are small-minded people. I’m glad he defends her. He doesn’t want to be part of the prejudice people.

I felt really bad for Anne here Phillips parents made her doubt her and Phillip could be together plus they made her feel lower than low because of the colour of her skin and she didn’t deserve that no one does 😞💔

Throughout the snippets that I've seen of this movie, I never understood what exactly could have been flawed about Anne until she said that she always wanted to go to the theatre,

Zendaya deserved an Oscar nomination for this performance.

If I was Phillip, I would've walked away from my parents at that moment and never look back!
