The pitch (coarse, medium, fine) of the thread on the screw is about hardness of the wood. Fine thread leads are for harder woods and coarser for softer wood. The finer pitch has a slower feed rate so the bit doesn't take as big of a bite.

I finally found my grandpa´s old brace and bits. I love that thing. Sometimes I simply get a scrap of wood and zone out for some minutes drilling for no reason at all. Great video. Great to see people taking care of our history. I wish I can find someone to keep the tool that passed from my great grandfather to my grandfather and now I take care and use.

Love all the tool stuff. Found myself pausing a lot to read the how to. I find it really interesting learning about what to call certain parts of tools and take notes.

This brings back memories.
First, because my dad had a brace and set of Irwin bits.
Second, because I went to undergrad school in Wilmington, OH. I used to walk past the Irwin factory often, and their huge hammer forges would shake the entire neighborhood at all hours.
I haven't been back in years, but I've heard those hammers have been silenced.

I love the print on those old boxes almost more than the tools themselves.

I just love these old tool videos. I've been slowly getting my grandfather's tools that were distributed after his death to family members who didn't care for them or use them. I was a little too young at the time of his death to have gotten them, so it's a mission of mine to find them again and ask if I can have them to restore them. His old bits and bobs drawers are at my mother's house, I can't wait to get those. Cheers to all your hard work!

I really enjoyed seeing the adjustable bit. What a fantastic and beautiful tool. Good luck getting anything of similar quality and craftsmanship from Home Depot!

I'm not going to say these are the best videos because I love watching everything you put out but I will say these put a huge smile on my face and really opens my eyes to the history of America. Keep these coming!

When I was growing up my grandfather used to use a drill with a long ship auger bit to bore a hole in the stumps of trees we had cut and he would pour a special powder that is active in microorganisms that promoted decomposition.

I absolutely LOVE the attention to detail and quality that was given beck than. is just makes me sick, how poorly things are done today. You can see it everywhere: tools, cars,

Just picked up a 13 piece set of Irwin bits, #5 - #18 in great shape, two expansive bits(one an Irwin), two longer bits (6 & 8) and a Worth Brace. Thanks to your videos I now know they're the medium GP set. Now I need to find a #4 and make a nice box for them.

I use my Dad's old Craftsman brace, very much like the first one you showed. I chuck up a Phillips screwdriver bit from my impact driver kit and use as my 'cordless screwdriver'. The battery never runs down and I can ratchet in tight places.

Thanks for sharing the instruction booklet, that was one of the neatest things about this old set of bits.

Hunting down a set of bits is a current project of mine and I'm glad that you found such a nice set. Thanks for the inspiration.
