“It doesn’t seem to phase him in the slightest.” He’s literally trembling in pain

I assumed it was because he had already gotten sensory overload and was already starting to die. Like when something is so hot, you don't feel it for a second or, sometimes, it feels cold rather than hot. But, you could be right about all the pain he's endured in his life making him more tolerant. Or, maybe both. Or maybe they just wanted him to have one last cool line before he died.

I always assumed it was like 3rd degree burn for Tony. He's just a human. The surge probably destroyed his nervous system rather immediately and he didn't feel much afterward.

In Infinity War, Thanos says "The hardest choices require the strongest wills". Then, we also know that the Infinity Stones have some degree of sentience or some kind of vague ability to manifest their "will". So, knowing these two things, I think the reason why Tony was able to withstand the power of the stones is because he, simply put, has a lot more willpower than Thanos or Banner/Hulk. He's willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of everyone else, so he's accepted it, whereas neither Thanos nor the Hulk were willing to die for the snap.

I guess a fitting analogy would be if you fall into a river and try to escape by going against the flow, you're going to struggle a lot, even if you do manage to make it out. But Tony essentially accepted his fate and went with the flow.

My personal theory is that it’s either the Soul Stone, the Mind Stone, or both that are boosting the power surges with Endgame Thanos and Professor Hulk. Endgame Thanos is conflicted with his desires and has ultimately strayed from the thing he originally thought he was meant for: Snapping half of all life in the universe. The Mind Stone probably upped its surges as it sees this Thanos unfit to snap.

For Professor Hulk, it’s probably both Mind and Soul Stones. The Soul Stone sees Prof. Hulk (and probably the rest of the Avengers) as crazy since snapping half of the universe back will cause massive chaos and more devastating damage than the one Thanos did. And/or theMind Stone upped it’s surge since Hulk sorta underestimated it’s maximum power as some “gamma radiation here and there nothing special”.

Tony resisted the pain probably cuz the Stones probably nerfed their surge, enough so that Tony can snap. They see him as a righteous man that will do any sacrifice for the good of his world.

Or you can go the more technical and say that the Nano Gauntlet is weaker than the Infinity Gauntlet but cmon that’s lame

"The trick, Mr Potter, is not minding that it hurts."
Oof sorry wrong fandom lol

I like to think it’s because his nano-tec armour was self healing as the as the stones were corroding his armour continually and since he was fully covered in his armour the stones power was spread over a larger area with the armour protecting tony stark.

Maybe it's because of what he was planning to use them for. Hulk was trying to bring back Natasha along with everyone else, and the Soul Stone probably didn't like that, so it made the others cause him pain, but since Tony was just trying to eliminate Thanos and his army, the Stones weren't bothered. This also explains why the energy surge stayed so strong on Hulk, while on Tony it stabilized quickly.

Plus, Tony is more used to pain due to how much he's been thrown around in the movies, while Banner doesn't usually feel pain as The Hulk (or at least he doesn't remember Hulk's pain). Not to mention Tony already knew it would hurt, while Hulk was taken off-guard.

I mean Thanos (in Infinity War) took the stone surge once he placed the Mind Stone on the gauntlet before taking a Stormbreaker to the chest (which Thor shoved into the chest more and more to taunt Thanos) before snapping and then teleporting away with a gash in his chest area much larger than Tony's hole to the chest in Iron Man lol but I mean Tony is forever wearing a suit of armor even greater than the Mark 1000 (if he ever created suits to number that high); PLOT ARMOR

And with The Hulk, we can't forget that he was trying to not just "undo" The Snap, but specifically restore Natasha- which the Stones could not do. So, he essentially fought with the Stones while that energy was messing him up before snapping himself, i.e., he got a much longer dose of that energy than Thanos or Tony did.

I feel that the arc reactor on his chest also plays a part in this since the Avengers have established that the scepter didn't affect tony for whatever reason but it affected other people. We also don't know what kind of element it is based on since it has never been established or the limits of its capabilities are in the movies. We don't know its power other than powering the suit and most likely helps charge the ironman armor when Thor uses his lighting on him as seen in the Avengers and Endgame since it looks like the armor was from ironman 2 in the Avengers and we don't know whether the suit automatically recharges itself when struck by lightning otherwise it is left unknown to us what else it can do other than being used as a battery.

I think it's just because iron man's real power is his willpower and the ability to overcome everything.

Tony already knew he was going to be playing the major part in defeating Thanos and would've engineered his suit/ armor accordingly. Tony always managed to cover all his bases through the accumulation of information. He was always many many steps ahead of everyone else.

I think Tony was in that moment, ready to sacrifice everything, including his life to put an end to Thanos and knowing he would save Pepper and his daughter gave him the will to accept the pain.

Its also possible that the surgery he did in iron man 3 using Extremis made him stronger/healing/pain tolerant.

The infinity stones fused with Tony's suit, we can see that when the stones climbed up his arm, in essence making his entire suit the infinity gauntlet and Tony's entire body the hand that holds them. Him and his suit together are an upscale wielder, but still the power is too much for a mere human, killing Iron-Man.

The thought of protecting his daughter gave him the opportunity to act. Also proving Capitan America wrong about not being the guy to make the sacrifice play helped.

He didn't use the full power of the stones. He wanted to destroy an army not half the universe. Remember hulk was trying to bring back Natasha which the stones wouldn't allowed

My theory might be contradictory, but here goes.

As far as we understand this last iteration of Tony's suit was armed for offence more than defence and not for the sake of keeping Tony safe(r) than any prior iteration. Very early in the battle with Thanos, he takes an accidental blow from Mjolnir and knocks out until everyone from 5 years to present time have arrived to join battle. He is also 5 years older at this time and living in isolation from any fight. He is likely unfit even as he prepares for the journey to go back in time. Not doubting he has come to withstand pain - Civil War being the bloodiest, perhaps - I actually don't think he could have withstood the pain from the stones, and the offence of his now damaged suit at the time he is about to snap is actually absorbing most of the energy which is less apparent around his exposed body than we saw with Bruce and Thanos. Being older and unfit - maybe he cannot withstand the energy at all. And, yes, the power of his mind and determination to end 11 years of Thanos in his head is what is holding him together in his final moment. But I am more inclined to believe that his suit's offensive abilities are probably heightened by the stones just enough to allow him to snap, but the damage is already severe, his older and more feeble body does not withstand the energy surge to rid a "small" army which may have taken less "work" than Bruce's effort to bring back billions or trillions of all forms of life that were lost, PLUS the impossible of trying to bring back Natasha... for which he was punished for defiance of that everlasting exchange it takes to earn the soul stone, the stone which Red Skull said seems to have its own wisdom.

Must've been the work of the Ego Stone.
