Guys I just bought one too and I'm also certified John deere tech.
Yes once your machine hits the first 8 hours you have to change the oil ( well its highly recommended).
No reason to lube parts so early on front end or pullies. Everything should have a heavy dose of lube from factory.
Yes the oil filter has all the oil inside of it. And it's designed not to leak when removed. So when you put new filter on it should be good to go but you should always check the oil levels after you start your mower and check for any leaks. Mine was completely in the middle of the marks when I changed mine the other day.
Hope this helps. Also if you can't get to any John deere turf oil just use any sinthetic 10w30.

Thanks for taking the time to make a vid. Others are right. That two and a half seconds of removing the spark plug wire really wore me out and didn’t seem necessary. Tomorrow when I regain my strength I shall complete the oil change.

But I’m all seriousness thank you for taking your time to help us.

Manual and sticker on machine say change oil at 50 hours but this just don’t seem right. And when the punk kid at Home Depot said do nothin till 50 hours I knew my spiddy sense was tingling some good. I will confirm with dealer and report back.

My D105 just hit 150 hours. I service it diligently and oil is good, everything has been changed except the oil which I'll do today .
I got 10 hours before this service light came on .
I always check the level etc, add once in while as needed, just can't get the light off!

I have the same tractor & mine doesn't say any about changing the oil after 8 hours. I checked under the hood & the manual. Mine just says to lube different parts after 8 hours.

OK, I did all that about 8 hours into the run on a new machine. Then mowed about an acre of lawn. The SVC warning has been flashing night and day ever since. JD Service Tech had no idea why. Any help out there??
