China unveiled the J-35A at the Zhuhai Airshow. Its resemblance to the F-35 cannot be denied—it's the skinny cousin!

What do you think? Awesome fighter? Skinny juicy target? Fat over Fit Amy? Chinese junk? Leave your comments below!

Every Monday at 8PM ET, Mover (F-16, F/A-18, T-38, 737, helicopter pilot, author, cop, and wanna be race car driver) and Gonky (F/A-18, T-38, A320, dirt bike racer, author, and awesome dad) discuss everything from aviation to racing to life and anything in between.

Different engines, radars, avionics, length, wing span, weight, dsi intake, computer, what's there to copy?

different dimensions, different intakes, different weapon bay, etc. all of which must go through extensive testing and wind tunnel evaluations. No copy and paste info can make it fly if that's the case.

It definitely looks much sexier than the F35.😂

If China copied, China will get a slow fat jet with tons of bugs.
There's a saying, the best flanker is not in Russia.

The bump behind the cockpit is to reduce wave form drag at supersonic speeds, same as on the J-20A. It also allows for more room for fuel and subsystems. All new fighters are going to this way.

Also, the J-35A is the second model designation, and the J-35 is the naval variant. So where we have the F-35A/B/C, they have the J-35_/A, same with the J-20_/A/S. The first model doesn’t have a letter designation.

As an aside, they didn’t just pop this out, they’ve been developing it since the FC-31 first flew in 2012.

The F-35 eating too much American junk food😂

The hump aft of the cockpit supposedly provide a smoother transition between the nose section and the body section in terms of cross sectional area, and helps reduce drag in transonic flight. Secondly it's supposed to prevent turbulent airflow over the cockpit spilling into the intake at certain angles of attack

"F35 copy"
KF-21, HAL AMCA concept: 😳

Unlike multi role F35, J35 has only one purpose to counter F35.

J35 has a sleeker and leaner look, an agile bird. While F35 is a bulky fat bird like a turkey.

Looks nicer than the J-20 tbh, probably stealthier than the Su-57.

It’s crazy how in a few years China will produce around 200 stealth jets annually

1:11 the "spine" is to reduce drag in high alpha. China actually document all this in their science journal so the designer can explain their aerodynamic choice and other designer can learn from it. they are not really a blackbox like people think, we just lack the technical language skill to translate alot of their document... :\

The J-35A is the land based variant. It is slightly longer, taller and has a wider wingspan than the F-35, but significantly less weight. It's two engines combine to generate almost as much thrust as the F-35's one engine.
One note: copying an existing aircraft is not trivial. The tooling to form the parts, the material science to "cook" the materials that will be formed on the tooling, and training the workforce, those are all huge challenges.

Maximum take-off weight: 35tons
Thrust-to-weight-Ratio: 1.26
Maximum speed: Mach 2.2
Combat radius: 1350km
Radar cross section: 0.01m2
Radar: Gallium nitride
Bomb load: 8 tons
Weapon Bay:PL-15 with 400km target range.

F35:
Maximum thrust: 9
Maximum take-off weight: 32tons
Thrust-to-weight-Ratio: 0.87
Maximum speed: Mach 1.6
Combat radius: 1160km
Radar cross section: 0.5m2
Radar: AESA
Bomb load: 7 tons
Weapon Bay:AIM120D with 160km target range.

I don’t like the tone and silly accusation of copying without any grounds of the host at all, if you are given envy single torn pieces of a F35 into cubic inches and a design layout details, would you be able to copy and paste it? Just anything ! How about a hypersonic missile, a Beidou GPS system, a self built space station or a moon rover landed on far side of the moon? A DJI drone or even a BYD U8, U9 or BYD Denza D9?

A pilot not necessary to be expert on aerodynamics. The spine(or fat neck) on J-35 is because it reduce resistence according to wind tunnel test. J-20 also made the same modifications.

You guys should just book tickets to next year's airshow. The first 3 days are only for buyers, and then they open it up to the general public. Get OSINT straight from the ground.

They didn't copy paste, except in your dreams.
