2008 Ford Escape hybrid jump start procedure.

My Sister has a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid with less than 120k miles on it and they keep telling her she needs a battery replacement but I think the problem is that she doesn't drive it much and sometimes it sits in her driveway for weeks.

My Mom has a 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid with less than 100k miles on it and they keep telling her she needs a battery replacement but I think the problem is that she doesn't drive it much and sometimes it sits in her driveway for months. Can I use a regular battery charger connected to the 12v under the hood with the jump start button pressed to keep the hybrid batteries fully charged while sitting because she is having trouble with the vehicle staying charged before and while driving short distances?
