Deck Restoration 101- Part 1: A Step-by-Step Guide to Stripping Stain

Part of a complete deck restoration is stripping off old stain to clean and prepare the deck for new stain and sealer. Check out the step-by-step guide to a complete restoration of an older deck. When we got to this deck, it had a water based stain on it that had been applied about a year and a half prior. When we left, it was looking refreshed, clean, and ready for some Stain & Seal Experts Walnut semi-transparent oil-based stain.

Do I have to strip a semi trans? Before I restrain it a darker color? Or can I just wash it only?

would have loved to see if it needed to be sanded and how much work that is to accomplish. would also have loved to see it stained.

What did you charge for this whole job?

If it’s dangerous like you say why are you going at it with no ppe?

So just wash all that toxic chemicals to the soil around the house....Maybe suck up the bulk of it with a wet vac first to get most of it.

Just thought I'd drop a line and let anyone considering your system here know that it is very effective. Follow exactly how instructed in this part 1 and 2 video. I've used strippers for years, this one is effective and made my job easier. Less sanding needed which is a better foundation for finish coats. Thanks Caleb, God bless!
