The Bass String Experiment - Gig #10
How long do bass strings last? How many gigs will a set of strings last for? When should I change my strings? - questions every bassist and guitarist have pondered at some point in their playing careers. There is no definitive answer, there are way too many different factors to consider.

BUT - to get an idea and a ball-park figure, I've fitted a brand new set of @Rotosound SM66 Swing Bass steel roundwound strings to this newly cleaned and set-up @Status Graphite Empathy bass. I'm going to use this bass on as many gigs as possible over the coming weeks and months and will upload progress videos after each show with tone examples and updates at various gig milestones.

Down on the south coast for gig number ten, down to Portsmouth for an evening of disco funk shenanigans!

Join me on the journey and we'll find out just how many gigs these strings can stand!!

It's interesting to consider whether the length of time the strings have been installed is of some significance as well as the amount of actual playing time. For example if there is a week's gap between gigs. Also, are you using the bass for any practising or rehearsals between gigs? Thanks - enjoyable videos.

Hi Mike,

I need to catch up on of these gigs or is it just announcing the gig your about to do...

I've been meaning to ask you " What is that nice looking 5 String Bass Guitar that's been on the back of your left shoulder...

I could manage a guess but would rather hear from you than make an idiot of myself my making guess that's way off the mark...

An update regarding the Aria Pro II SB1000 Bass Guitar & that is my luthier friend says he's got the tools to clean the orignal Brass Bridge that's I mess...
Anytime I've seen Chrome & Brass cleaned is been on renovations & build back up of old classic cars that have been left in a mess & they mostly use different size & no doubt how course the material that is on these circular wheeled polishers that they can leave plugged into its on specific stand or most time I see them being done turning lathes & they put a dark looking wax on them & the difference is amazing but them there are those that just have to dip in chemicals to clean them & then get a new shiny chrome look...

I spoke with him yesterday & since he only had 2 days left of his shifts left to do aa he doesnt work on weekends unless its to work on his own projects, so I decided to leave having the Matsomoku made Aria Pro II SB1000 Bass Guitar being dropped off until Monday or Tuesday & I know all too well that even we've became friends these last 12 plus years I don't jump the line & I wouldn't even think of asking that anyway...

I dope he can clean that Brass Bridge up to as near as new looking as possible as it'll look amazing on the bass & as I said apart from swirling marks that basses body & the buttons are in excellent condition...

I may ask him to clean up Aria Pro II SB1000 Tuning Pegs as they look amazing to & a little tlc would see them look almost new...

I'm glad I spoke to him about the brass bridge getting cleaning colleagues he knows but when he said he does that too I was honestly surprised as I used to drop in & see him at work & not once did I see those polishing wheels but then again he may have it further in the back of his store or he might use a different methods & 3rdly I haven't been down to his workplace in 10 years as that was when no matter what told by body to do it either wouldn't do it or I'd have to force...

Thankfully I'm seeing & a great Specialist in that area & to make it easy on me he cancelled my appointment to go & see him but instead chose to phone me which was a lot easier as they know much I struggle to get to that Specialist Hospital...

I do hope he can clean that Brass Bridge up as it really (for me) tops off the whole making process of them & they always looked great when I managed to see only a few (with the latter being ridiculous) that looked almost New but then again they are next to impossible to find a Clean Brass Bridge...

If my friend does manage to polish it up to look as good as knew I'll let you know so that if a fellow Aria Pro II SB Range of bass guitars finds himself with a brass or chrome bridge thats to filthy or just plain busted & they can have my Chrome Bass Bridge as I don't see my 2 apart from the brass bridge which i need to wait to see if he can clean it up to what I'm looking for & if not I'll be putting the Chrome Bridge that after yesterday but if he does manage to clean up to as new as possible then I'll have no need of the Chrome one I just bought & unless something else happens that neans I'll be keeping it then that'll be unfortunate...

As I'm looking at making my Matsumoku made Aria Pro II from a Duo to a Trip as I can't stop thinking about a few demo's I've seen on the Matsumoku made Aria Pro II SB700 & it offers some more original Aria sounds I don't have & an English man who'll you'll know doubt seen throught the years on YouTube rescues & builds back up bass guitars that he thinks are worthy of this & if he can fix it he'll do it he send a comment on YouTube saying he already has an SB700 if I'm interested...

Well that's enough about me " How has your week gone! "

As Always Take Care and All The Best...

Paulo
