Unboxing And Review Of The 2023 Pineider Modern Times Fountain Pen

preview_player
Показать описание
Pineider pen designer Dante del Vecchio sent me this new model fountain pen for review. The Pineider Modern Times takes its design cues from the first jet fighter in the world, the Messerschmitt Me262. I unbox it, talk about the parts and features of the pen, provide some size comparisons and measurements, and then do a writing sample. After the writing sample, I talk about what I like and what I don't like about the pen. Please feel free to use the chapters provided below to skip to various parts of the review.

Hi Doug. This pen definitely has that Omas-like look. It is an absolutely gorgeous pen.

I first saw your interview with Dante on Appelboom's channel, then I raced here to see if you ever got a Modern Times pen to review. Yes! And now my wallet is going to cry because if both Dante and you say this is a very comfortable pen, I must have this design masterpeice. Thank you.

As always, a very thorough and informative review; thanks, Doug!

This pen is certainly a beautiful work of design and engineering. I especially like your analogy between the triangular design, and the lane-keeping assistant 🙂
It is nice to see how this substantial pen compares to the Montblanc 149 in size. IMO, it would have been really nice if this pen were equipped with a No. 8 nib. I suspect that, after your review, Maestro Dante Del Vecchio will probably work on a new iteration with a larger ink capacity 🙂

Thanks again, and please keep these excellent review coming 👏👏

What a great review! I am waiting for mine to arrive.
I do own at the Delta 360, the shape does not bother me, but I do tend to change my writing instruments daily.
Dante is the reason I own the Visconti Homosapien what an amazing pen .
I’ve been following Dante since his Visconti days. but when I found he went to Pineider I followed.
I had the privilege of having hours of great conversations with him such an interesting man. I can’t believe I was able to sit there, and have such a in-depth and honest, conversation with him, such a wealth of information I do have several signed pens. I cherish that I got from Dante. He is the one pen designer I truly follow to see you what next …. Thanks for your personal input on this pen it is greatly valued.

I baught one, got it shipped in 7 days. Lovely package and pen. What i absolutely hate is the fact that the pen came with the nib crooked en very dry with a lot of feedback. You do all this designing tot make the most comfortable pen in the world and then you get the (not cheap) pen without the nib tested...

I love the pen body, but the fact that you can't screw off the grip section to access the cartridge converter for easy cleaning and filling is a deal breaker for me. Also, I'd like the number 8 size nib to start being normalized, especially at this price.

A very nice looking pen! Thanks for the review. Moore I'll need to save my allowance for one of my own! 😁

It’s funny that Doodlebud and Figboot both recently purchased an Omas 360, and now you have this pen. It’s like the universe is telling me I should get one. Nice review, Doug.

Even having seen it on the Appelboom Bites, I did gasp when you unveiled the pen. The complex curves are superbly achieved, and the finish, while probably a fingerprint magnet, is just stunning. Understated, yet showstopping.

I think it would be interesting if you could find someone to borrow an Omas 360 from to compare. I think you did a great job talking about the look of the pen and I see how different they are but from the other comments I think that would be very useful especially for people who wanted a 360 but can’t afford one. Your comment on filling the pen out of certain bottles got me thinking, have you ever thought of having your son make you a little ink miser/well to put ink in to more easily fill from bottles you can’t put a pen in? My brother in law designed one for me to use and I really like it.

Does remind me a lot of an OMAS 360 and a bit of my ASC Triangolo, except the ASC has a chilton style filling system on it instead of a piston filler or captured converter. If I ever decided to get one it would be in the British Racing green with rose gold trim or the Black with rose gold trim. Great review Doug as usual!

Thanks for another great review. I came back to look as I was reconsidering this pen. I love the look of this pen and its heritage in the ME262 is a treat for sure. As much as I would love to have one, I wont simply due to the captured converter. I cant tell you how many times ink has bypassed the piston in my converters and required disassembly. That makes this a non starter unfortunately.

Agreed about the Take-Sumi - it’s my go-to black, too.

Absolutly stunning and more than only interesting design. Even though it's the most unusal design in a long time and it attracts me very much, I am in no way convinced by the completely exorbitant price. This is just money harvesting, in my book at least. And it goes without further saying Doug, all of your reviews are made with a lot of passion, love for details and a sharp view, and a high professional standard of any video, you release. That's why I always watch your reviews and resurrection videos.

Lovely pen but I do like to change the colour of the inks in my pens to match my mood. That and the 300 usd price, and I will have to think about this one. I love the fact that he is rethinking pen design and that Darth Vader black on black looks great. Thanks for the demo. Will you give us an update in about 3 months and tell us what it’s been like to use regularly?

Thanks for pointing out all the engineering highlights of this lovely pen, Doug. While I appreciate them very much, I am not an expert. So I would not notice them unless someone like you brought my attention to them.
The price does make this model beyond my reach. Too, I recently acquired a Pineider TTT and like it a lot. However, with it in my collection, I don't feel the need to add another. There are other mfgs whose products I have yet to obtain.
Lastly, I'd like to commend to your attention the Sheaffer Prelude. It has a very comfortable, sort-of triangular grip. I bought two for my then 94 year old father several years ago. He loved them because with his poor vision and slightly arthritic hands, the grip was a wonderful assist. I've inherited them since he passed and can assure you they are quite comfortable. Nothing like the Safari. It is a nice, smooth writer. In addition, it is available in an all gunmetal finish at Pen Chalet for $67!

That’s the first time I’ve seen a magnetic closure. That’s very interesting. Bet it’s satisfying to open and close.

If the price weren't prohibitive enough to keep me from even thinking about purchasing this pen, I can't say I'm a fan of magnetic closures, triangular pens/grips, or captured converters in a pen that can't be disassembled for cleaning/maintenance. It's a work of art, all right, but just not for me.
