Audio 101: The Not-So-Simple 2 Pin Connector

2-pin IEMs have practically taken over the market due to the simplicity of its design. However, there's quite a lot more to them that meets the eye. Fc-Construct gives a quick rundown of the types of 2-pin IEMs and cables you might see.

C Pin does not have reversed polarity. QDC who originated the connector has reversed polarity, but any other version of it I've seen (KZ, Unique Melody MEST, Tangzu Wan'er) it's standard polarity, same as regular 2 pin.

After a bit research I found that there are 3 or more types of protruded 2 pin connectors.
1.C pin(0.75mm or 0.78mm), 2.QDC(0.78mm), 3.NX7 aka TFZ (0.78mm) * The ( Both 0.75 and 0.78 mm) C type & QDC 2-pin connectors come with a rounded sleeve that plugs into a rounded socket sticking out the earpiece. *NX7 or TFZ 2-pin connectors have a squared sleeve that plugs into a squared socket.

I wish more brands would follow Dunu's example with the recessed connector. There's zero wiggle room in their socket and you're more likely to break the faceplate off than break the pins or connector.

I recently lost my IEM on a walk when I had them out. I was wondering isn't there some kind of locking mechanism one can apply to these bonds? I am trying to prevent this for future use: it's expensive and a hassle having to replace these things.

i cut my shrouded cable plastic to make it fit to iem that should be pair with extruded cable 😭😭😭
