Channing Tatum auditioned for the role of Gambit in 2006, for X-3: The Last Stand, but then Brett Ratner came. He was considered for the role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine but wasn't available due to his commitment to the G.I. JOE movie. THEN, he was considered to portray Gamit in X-Men Apocalypse, but was not written into the movie, not did Gambit's solo film took off and ended up in development hell... So I'm glad for Tatum that he FINALLY got to play Gambit in this movie!
