Turkey has got to be one of the nicest places ive visited.

The only thing that lets it down are the taxi drivers ripping off tourists.

Never forget I went to Marmaris in 2001.
I was only 18/19
Me and my mate landed around 10pm and went straight out.
I pulled a bird and in the morning woke up at her hotel.
All I knew was the name of my hotel.
This is pre mobile phones.
So early in the morning I flag a taxi down and give the driver the name of my hotel.
We drive around for about 15 mins.
Different streets and all surroundings that are completely alien to me.
We arrive at my hotel and I pay the driver etc.
Later on that day I’m around the pool and the girl from last night comes over.
I was like ‘what you doing here?’
She goes ‘my hotel is only by there’

Her hotel was directly opposite where I was staying.Must of been 50 feet away.

Bruh when I got to Turkey last year literally such a nice place but some of the taxi locals are pricks, we had a ride from the airport to our hotel prepaid, midway they stopped at a gas station and told us to get some food or whatever, me and my family of 4 got 2 burgers, 2 hotdogs and some fries, after we ate they tried to charge me close to £80?! We was in shock l, we could literally see the prices on the menu in US dollar for 5.85 each or something, should have been max £25. Honestly such a let down especially when you just land in a country, we ended up paying £40 but still it was the worst

When I visited Orlando and wanted to go downtown Orlando for a night out, 30 min drive there and a taxi driver said $120 one way, same for return so 240 total... this was back in 2007 and we found an honest driver who took us and picked us back up at 2am for $90 and we gave him 120, 30 for the tip and as a result of his honesty he gave us his phone number and we used him for the remaining 10 days of the holiday to go everywhere!

Same in Egypt.

I paid £40 for like 40 mile round trip. ( bearing in mind fuel there is £3 for a full tank !!)

Someone from the hotel, told me about Uber and other local companies and they were charging £4!!

It's because your British, me and my family wanted to go on a boat trip and they asked me where I was from before they gave me a price, when they knew I was a Brit they put the price through the roof.

People do not understand the struggle. They are waiting for hours in the row and if someone is coming with a short distance tour, he will value his time. He will not go for 110, if he is waiting like 3-4 hours in the cab line.

Female traveler here. Taxi was where I got scammed in Istanbul On my way! To the airport. Mans took the furthest route and threatened to leave me on side of road when I asked why he took this route and why do I need to pay extra toll fees when the meter is already calculating it.

If you have lived in Turkey like I did; especially Istanbul you’ll get 90% of your Ubers cancelled. They text before coming telling you a completely different price. If you don’t agree they will cancel. The Uber prices are absolutely ridiculous. Impossible for them to make a living on those prices. Don’t blame them to be fair.

You’re missing the point. Uber is devastating the Turkish taxi market. Of course a Turkish liveried taxi is going to try to charge you more.

Try this in any country and it's the same. That's why taxi drivers across the world hate uber. Uber has under cut them massively

You won't get honest Turkish taxi drivers. Almost all of them I have come across lie and overcharge

LOL
Uber price is not a criteria for honesty! If you want an Uber, order one. He is giving you his price, take it or leave it. Wheres the dishonesty?

Many ppl complain they can’t get an Uber, as drivers not accepting the shit rates, so when you approach a driver for cash, he will tell you what’s acceptable for him, otherwise keep waiting.
