I see many people still coming to this video, but sadly, it no longer works in the Ubuntu versions. New installer doesn't offer creating encrypted btrfs (except Kubuntu one theoretucally, because it just bugs out), so I guess the best we can do here encrpted ext4 and timeshift. Maybe Linux Mint has something on that though (it's technically still Ubuntu, right?). But solution presented here, doesn't work anymore...

Thx u look so charismatic we need more streamers like you. That method is not working on Kubuntu unfortunately..

Ubuntu 23.10: I got the error message Unable to install GRUB in /dev/vda Executing 'grub-install /dev/vda' failed.
This is a fatal error.

I will be making an updated video on this. Flutter installer is sadly useless when it comes to creating such setup, BUT Kubuntu uses different one (it looks and works awfully lot like Calamares, but is called ubiquity... and it seems it's not the most straightforward setup either, but it works). So, a little sketchy. Other option would be to manually create partitions and debootstrap the system onto it, like 'the Arch-way', but I'm not entirely sure if you'd want that (Ubuntu is suppossed to be easy to install, at this point you might just opt for Debian, but maybe I'll make such video as well - provided I'll confirm it actually works).

EDIT: Okay, Kubuntu installer shits itself, so debootstrap seems to be the only hope.

the new flutter ubuntu installer does not seem to create the root btrfs subvolume for timeshift to work
